Hello -
We have a 2017 R25 SC and I noticed last night the Fireboy-Xintex CDM-4M alarm was beeping every 30 seconds to indicate end of life. After researching, they no longer make that unit.

What unit should I replace it with? I believe it’s hard wired and not battery operated.

Thank you,
Eric

I bought two of these to replace the original hard wired unit.

One went in the cave to replace the original and one in the v-berth over my head. Both have 10 year batteries, are easy to test, have visual CO readings in real time, are really loud and don’t drain the house battery or fail to work if the house battery is dead.
While not “marine rated” this unit is UL approved and has worked perfectly in the cabin locations mentioned for the past four years. Installation was super easy - 5 minutes each.
I just don’t like having always on parasitic loads on the boats batteries when there are excellent alternatives available.
If going this route remember that CO is very, very slightly lighter than air and CO detectors should not be placed at the lowest part of the boat. (Nitrogen gas has a weight of 28.013 while Carbon Monoxide (CO) has a weight of 28.011)

Thank you both - appreciate it!!

Eric

We also replaced the CO detector on our 2017 RT25SC this week. I went the direct replacement route with the CMD5 unit. See: https://www.fireboy-xintex.com/marine-c ... d-of-life/. The - R designation could be confusing so I called Fireboy and asked. It means the unit was packaged for retail.

My thinking was that I wanted a unit that was a direct replacement. No need to drill any different holes. Change out took 20 minutes. I also wanted a marine rated unit and one that was hard wired. The current draw is negligible and I want a big battery powering critical equipment. Just different thinking, not looking for an argument! ( I use Kidde units at home). I wouldn't want anything else powering my bilge pumps for the same reason.
