What product do Tugnuts find works best for care of the teak and holly sole? I used Murphy's Oil Soap by default but do not know if this was a good or bad move.

For the teak panels I've used Teak Oil once per year. For the Holly Sole flooring I've done absolutely nothing and after 5+ years it still looked pristine. I have no clue what finish is on the Holly Sole but I have to say it's tough and durable as I use shoes in the cabin and our two Wire Hair Fox Terriers scamper about on it all the time as well.

I wonder if the finish is a 2 part polyethylene varnish. The trick is not to allow the finish to wear thru, otherwise a huge effort would be required to recover the panels. Perhaps Andrew might give some advice on this.

knotflying,
Helmsman poly you say, can you provide some background to your comment please. I use it a lot and the finish on the sole panels seems a lot harder than I have experienced with Helmsman finishes. Thanks.

We used three coats of Minwax Clear Gloss Super Fast-Drying Polyurethane for Floors on our cabin sole. We travel with to large labrador retrievers and the finish has been spill and paw/nail-proof. The high gloss finish also provides excellent traction and has good grip; it is not at all slippery.

I have used Ultimate Sole". Goes on easy and is not slippery when wet. Only if you need it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you have some wear spots, "very lightly" sand with 220 grit. Be very careful, it's a thin veneer on top of a plywood. Do Not sand if you don't have to. Clean with the cleaner that Ultimate sole has, which is a very light mineral spirit. Then two coats and your done. I put carpet down in the high traffic areas to prevent scuff marks. I did it on my last boat, but there were noticeable scratches and sun damage. It came out nice. I would use it again, if I had to.

Andrew told me that is what they use so I went with it and no problem with the results. Unfortunately for me I have replaced the sole. Unbeknownst to us water was infiltrating around the edge. It was running from the counter by the sink in the area where there are no fiddles, hitting the floor and then running under and along side the plywood. First there was discoloration and then eventually delaminated. I would suggest that a small bead of caulking be put in place around the entire edge where the flooring meets the gelcoat. I replaced all my flooring with vinyl.

Nudge, was that their oil based or water based product?
