Hello All,

It was suggested on Cbrats that I ask this question here. Is there anyone out there using a Yakima or Thule type of cargo rack on their tugs crossbars? If so, how is it holding up in the salty environment? We are thinking of putting one atop our 22 cruiser for storage of crab and shrimp gear and possibly extra fuel for extended trips.

Hi Karl:

We just put on a Yakima Skybox Pro 12, as this was the only enclosed box that would fit the crossbar spread and fit on the side of the solar panel on the R-27.

Haven't had it in the salt yet, but it seems real sturdy.

Hey Bill,
Now that sounds like a great way to get rid of the annoying list to port. What size do you have, and does it mount OK on the starboard side of the rack?
Thanks, Phil

Hi Phil:

We got the 12 cu ft size; I mounted on starboard side rails to compensate for that port list with generator installed, but box will open from either side and could be mounted on port side if needed.

Karl,
I just today mounted that exact same Yakima box on my R25SC, except on the port side. We don't have a problem with a list so we mounted on port side to avoid the stowed antenna. I, too, wonder how it'll hold up in salt. I'll inject the locks with silicone lube for some protection, and just keep it clean.

Bill,
What I wrote to Karl about the Yakima cargo box I should have addressed to you. I think my brain must have stumbled a little.
