Carpet or vinyl flooring?

I’m going to fork about the cash for flooring on my R-21. I really just want to do the cockpit but the price is not too much more to do the whole boat. I like the Corinthian brand. Does anyone have either the carpet or vinyl material on their floors? Are there pros and cons to carpet or vinyl?

Any other brands or solutions you’d recommend?

I had the RT stock Teak/Holly carpet with vinyl backing for my R21 EC's cockpit and cabin. It was super tough, easy to clean (except presumably red wine or fishy stuff). It covered up the glaring white cockpit flooring for me as well as added foot/shoe stability. It was a good investment IMO.

Raptor decking panels are another option but beware, the panels are stuck down with adhesive backing whereas carpeting is removable.

Definitely do not want adhesive because I want to stow the cabin flooring while not in use. The AquaLoc from Corinthian seems like a good concept, just wonder how well it stays in place. The teak/holly is definitely nice plus it’s what RT used to sell as stock. I’m leaning towards the Solar Tan vinyl. And good point about carpet stains, unless I got red to match bloody fish and bloody Marys!

I have Corinthian teak and holly. Softens the gloosy look of gel coat....cleans up well. .....rolls up and stows when needed. It seems to help the acoustics too. If it were exposed to weather and fishing and crabbing all the time, I would consider the Raptor or Seadeck type in a color not prone to fading.

It is a foam material that is routed out on a CNC machine to get the design/shape in it. There are several folks here who have put it in their cockpits and have liked it. For the 21, you can either get material for the cockpit, or the cabin, or both.
If you look around this web site, it should give you more info on the material.

I will prefer Rigid Core Vinyl Flooring, vinyl floor is one of the most versatile materials available. It is relatively less expensive than hardwood floors, and this makes it perfect for heavily-trafficked areas of your home.

We recently installed Raptor Decking on “Toto”, a 21 ec. Couldn’t be happier with the quality, look and feel. Jonathan posted a video of the installation on his website littleredtug.com if you want to see how it looks.

Hey - Just to add to what JP posted - we just added Raptor Decking to our 21 and couldn't be happier with the product. I had the factory carpet when I bought the boat and it was a pain to have. There is no great place to store it and if it gets wet it was a pain to dry out. It got stained easily and started to look lousy. I thought the same about having a permanent flooring down but the Raptor decking has exceeded my expectations. It is an expensive up front cost - ask about discounts when you order - but once it is down it looks great. I just spent a week on the boat camping, fishing, loading stuff and using the boat without any issues. When it started to look dirty some Simple Green and scrub brush brought the floor back to new. Its cooler on the feet and soft to walk on. I am so glad I added it and it makes the boat look sharp too. Carpet is a cheaper alternative but glad I went with the Raptor decking. Seadek also has a similar product but you might have to make your own template for it. We made a video about putting the decking in the boat so you can see what it looks like installed - Jonathan
