On the boat the other day and heard a faint cycling noise (my wife says a “normal” person would hear it just fine). I traced it to the hydraulic pump for the trim tabs and engine cover. Pulled the fuse that runs the trim tab and figured it was the controllers. Through process of elimination, I found it was the command bridge controller that had a little bit of corrosion. Cleaned up, it stopped the faint cycling. It is not surprising that this controller had some issues since it is in the weather all the time, even though it is covered.
I warn about this because I monitored battery usage. It is really hard to hear this (even for “normal” people who don’t need hearing aids...marriage aids in my case) and could be ignored while on the hook. This would drain the batteries to flat overnight. I think this may have happened last summer when I woke to flat batteries even though I had been careful with Power usage.
Off to Costco for hearing aids.
