I am getting ready for spring projects and one is to install chafing material on wires and engine hoses. I have the material for the wires (marine grade split loom) but not for engine fuel and coolant hoses.

Does anyone have a recommendation on material for the engine fuel and coolant hoses? A search on Tugnuts described blue anti-chafing material but no further description.

Thanks much!

Mike

I had the Factory place the blue-looking anti-chafing material on all the engine hoses for my R-21EC. I forget the specifics of the material used, but maybe contacting RT customer help line might yield the information you are wanting. If I recall correctly when I did ask for this information, RT were hesitant to convey the material specifications as they weren't sure the same material would continue to be used as it was the first time they had done this for the R-21EC.

Clear hosing from most hardware stores or box stores can be used. Buy the diameter you need, cut to proper length, split and slip over other hoses you’re wanting to protect and zip tie them tight.

This is my solution also. Or any old (non-steel reinforced) hose of roughly the same diameter of that to be protected. Or for smaller stuff just use the electrical split loom.

Use the corrugated slip tubing used to contain wiring. Works great and comes on sizes big enough for engine hoses.

Great recommendations from all; many thanks!

Thanks for posting these recommendations. When inspecting my engine and all today I noticed that the fuel fill hose and vent hose have been chafing from being tight against the corner of the engine. Appears it came from the factory this way which is a strange run of the hose but will add protection this week.

Hi Mike,

We use wire looms for all of our chafe protection. It is also possible to secure these to sharp edges via fasteners. We use these to protect our hoses when going through bulkheads. Any sort of flexible polyethylene wire loom should suffice.

Thanks!
