Change the name in AIS

All,

Haven't played with AIS much but I have kind of a newby question.....

I have a 2017 CW 30CB with an AIS unit in it. RIght now the AIS is on (verified with the handheld VHF) but I cant see our name or where to insert/replace a name.

How do you go about adding the name of your boat to the AIS system. Is it done through the hand held VHF or done through the Gamin chartplotters.

Just for clarity, what kind of an AIS unit do you have installed? Is it a receiver only or is it a transceiver?

The name of your boat is normally part of the information that is entered when first installing or activating the AIS unit. When I did mine, I made sure to capitalize my boat's name so it was clear on the chart plotter. 🙂

Thanks Guys....I have a Vesper Marine XB-8000. Just talked with the company and I guess I should install the watchmate app and do a little playing around. Baz and Chimo thank you for your answers. Yes; name, mmsi and in my case my USCG ID were all entered when the unit was installed. I guess the chartplotters I have dont show you, but all the craft around you. The App will show me and allow me to check parameters.

You can use an App named MarineTraffic to expose your boat having the AIS transmission feature.

In this case my boat LAXEY is stationary in my marina's metal covered slip.
