I think it might be time (7-year-old boat?) to change the blackwater hoses on my boat. I can get access to the blackwater tank fairly easily, but I'm unclear on how to get access to where it vents, and to the back of the toilet. I have a C30. Any advice is appreciated.

Dave,
The black water hose on our former R-25 had to be replaced after 12 years. On the R-25 it’s super easy since the hose is accessible almost its entire route. The hose ran flat most of the 10 feet length. Because of that it never completely drained. Bellingham Yachts did the replacement in well under an hour.
Sailboat friends told me that 10-12 years is about average for hose replacement depending on the total amount of water that’s been through the hose and if the hose has a slope to it’s run or not.
I think our C-28, like your C-30 hose replacement will be more of a challenge. Please keep us posted. Good luck!

Anyone going to the trouble (more trouble for some than others) of replacing sanitation hose should give serious consideration to replacing with Raritan Sani-Flex (https://www.raritaneng.com/en_US/products/saniflex). It’s the only product recommended by Peggy Hall, the famous “Head Mistress” who “wrote the book” on boat sanitation, The New How to Get Rid of Boat Odors. It has a 10 year warranty and generally outlives that by a lot. Its other great virtue is that it is highly flexible. Much easier to install because of that, and also much easier to route so that you ensure that there are no low spots where the icky stuff will collect and sit. Both Peggy Hall and many others on the Trawler Forum think it’s far and away the best product available.

Much more expensive than the low end stuff, but really, you don’t want to do this job more than once or at most twice, right? Usually available through Fisheries and Defender, with the best price at Defender (depending on what shipping adds).

This is the exact hose I was looking at, at Fisheries. I first need to figure out how to get it off the back of the toilet, but the rest should be ok.

It’s great stuff, Dave. You won’t go wrong with it.

On the submarine someone would always flush a coffee stir stick down the head. That would clog the san pump and require dissambly of the pump to get the stir stick out.

I hated that work as you can imagine. I hope my hoses outlast me.

Dave, I also have a C30CB and I'm probably at the point where you were about two years ago. I'd be interested to hear about your success in accessing black-water hoses.
I couldn't see much from the access panel under the V-berth; or in the forward thruster/macerator compartment; or the sonar transducer compartment. Is there some other access? OR ... will I have to remove the head to access the hoses .. hope not. I'm especially interested in the vent hose.
Regards,
Dave

HI Dave, I have not yet done mine, but I'm going to hire it out this winter. It's just too tricky / complicated with the access.
