Both of our charging relays (Blue Seas 7610 with starting isolation) have apparently "welded" the contacts. As I was conducting the tests Blue Seas recommended I noticed that the relay between the house batteries and the engine start battery did not have the lock out feature connected. Instead, the wire was connected to the third "LED" terminal while the relay between the thruster battery did have a connection to the lock out terminal (the middle terminal.) Shouldn't the engine starter be locked out too? I have ordered replacement relays and will be changing them out in a week or so.

Hi Pat,

I have never seen a start lockout connected on a Tug that I have seen. It is not on any of the posted schematics either. For a time Ranger was connected 12V through a 3A fuse to the LED terminal on the ACRs. This is not a proper connection but no damage is done to the ACR. My R27 was built this way. Ranger has stopped doing this. I added a remote LED so I get ACR status at the helm. I used the existing 3A fuse and wire originally connected to the LED terminal for the + side of the LED, the - side of the LED is connected to the ACR LED terminal. I used a Blue Sea LED which has a current limit resistor in one of its leads. The remote LED mimics the LED on the ACR.

Check if you have a fuse (likely 3A) labeled Charge Relays, if so the extra connection you see is likely the incorrect +12V connection to the LED terminal.

Howard,

It is a +12 VDC connection to the LED terminal. I have removed it. The start isolation feature of the 7610 ACR would need a 12 volt input from the starter switch that would activate only when you turned the key to the start position. I called Blue Sea and they gave me a series of tests to perform and now the batteries are combining properly and the contacts are not welded as I thought. My R-29 is a 2009 model with the 6BY2-260 "Sport" engine. I have manual shift and electronic throttle. I think some of my problems are left overs from my lightning strike. It is running fine. I appreciate your info. Every little bit helps. I am now down to some ghost glow plug alarms but they don't interfere with operation. Just nuisances. Thanks again.
