Hi all,

I have a boat on the way and it will have a (it is pre loaded with coastal maps) Garmin chart map installed. What do you all use to supplement the chart plotter as in chart books or maps? Is there a brand of chart maps that has more information or details, but still have the detail you need if in the event your Garmin unit fails?

Thanks for your help! 🙂

If you're going to use the vessel on rivers and lakes, get the Garmin chip for them. Otherwise, you'll miss a lot of detail. They may call the chip, a fisherman's chip. I've bought a couple of them for different boats I've owned. Probably cost me a $100, each.

I use Corps of Engineers charts for the rivers, NOAA charts for coastal areas. Supplemented by cruising guides for each area.
