Hi, brand new to Tugnuts. In the process of purchasing a 2019 C28...my first Ranger/Cutwater product. Sold my Hunter 31 in January as my “crew” (wife/dog) informed me they were working too hard sailing 🙂. Since I’m unfamiliar with the new boat, I’m thinking that a checklist would be helpful...steps to take to get the boat fired up and underway, anchoring, docking, etc. We use them extensively in aviation, especially helpful when operating new equipment. Anyone out there created any for the C28 they’d be willing to share? Thanks!

I can send you mine for getting underway and returning. I pulled from a few different ones, and have edited some to try to reflect the real world (at least as it happens on our boat). Probably easier to email or PM if possible than to post.

I found a great piece of software called iAuditor that is great for checklists and logs. It is 100% free for up to 10 users.

https://safetyculture.com/iauditor/

It is easy to build checklists on mobile or PC, it keeps your checklist logs forever, and is pretty flexible.

I built check-on / check-off and refueling checklists for my R-31CB.

I believe there is a feature where I can share those checklists as an iAuditor template. Please let me know if you're interested.

Thanks,

David

We'll see if this works, but I posted departure and return checklists on Google docs. I've got a copy stored locally, so if anyone wants to add/edit, feel free, and we'll see how the crowd-sourcing works. Also, I'm more of a newbie owner, so please don't take this as authoritative. As mentioned, it's the result of merging a few lists I found out there, and editing to my level of need/thoroughness/boating.

Sounds interesting...would like to se them. Thanks!

They are *definitely* work-in-progress and we plan to have a different checklist for the summer (these are set up for winter use). I added them to the iAuditor public library so everybody can access them. If you add it as a "template" to your iAuditor account, it is super easy to customize to your needs. If you find errors/improvements, please let me know! (there are a few in there that I know I haven't fixed yet!)

Check-On/Pre-Use: https://public-library.safetyculture.io ... ist-winter
Check-off/After Use: https://public-library.safetyculture.io ... ist-winter
Fueling: https://public-library.safetyculture.io ... ing-beagle

Note that the fueling checklist has some very specific items to our situation. Just a way to show how extensively these can be customized.

Note that because of the way the software works, this isn't just a "checklist" -- it becomes an actual log we can access digitally. So while we keep a simple paper log (that's an item in the checklist), this becomes a more comprehensive log that's super easy to use. You can also see (from the fueling checklist, in particular) that it's really easy to add notes, reminders, or even graphics (for the Garmin reset I borrowed the one from Tugnuts!) into your checklist flow.

You could also set up maintenance logs (quarterly, monthly) the same way. It's a really, really powerful tool (iAuditor is used for fairly critical commercial safety/maintenance applications) but extremely easy to use, and I think it's great that they've made a Freemium version.

The app also has a separate feature for logging "issues." This is super helpful for organizing small problems with the boat in one place, and creating a checklist/to-do list for minor repairs.

It was 100% a necessity for me as I share the boat with two co-owners; having everything digital that we can access makes life a lot easier. But, thinking back to boats I've owned myself, I can see how this would have been great to have as a solo owner. I will probably use this as long as I am boating and it is available. It's a great tool.

Here’s my checklist for that I use for my 21ec

I made it in Google Sheets. If you like the format, you can copy and save in your own Google Drive. I keep this in a folder “Tug Stuff” with my other boating/navigation apps.

Please don’t modify this version. If you need any help just lmk.

It is helpful to see others’ checklists. Here is mine, copied and pasted from Evernote. In the Evernote app, each item begins with a checkbox which can be checked and unchecked. Those boxes translated to hyphens and brackets when pasted here. Some of these items were added from the school of experience (as in..."oops!").

When I bought my R29 I hired Glen Wagner to help me learn how to operate the boat. He gave me a very detailed checklist, he is in Anacortes but does a lot of work with Ranger Tug so you might want to try and get ahold of him.
