There are a lot of nice boats in our marina, but one brand new boat that just arrived yesterday is worth noting. For years, Birch Bay Village has rented a slip to the BP Cherry Point Refinery, just across the bay, for an Emergency Response Boat. This has been a nice additional source of income for the Village, but also a great asset to have in the community to assist with emergencies such as oil spills or boat fires. The old boat was pretty nice but the new boat is amazing. The 36’ foot Munson landing craft style boat was built in Burlington, Washington and is capable of traveling at 42mph. It is equipped with two fire fighting monitors capable of delivering 2,000 gallons per minute each, which is an impressive amount of water and because it uses sea water, the source is unlimited, and it does not rely or piggyback on limited land-based water flows. The boat is also equipped with oil spill response equipment such as skimmers and oil boom deployment rigging.
