Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous

I have some expired flares that we could use for a demo. I have handheld and aerial types. I was an Ordnanceman in the Navy and was previously qualified and certified for handling, etc. all types of flares and pyrotechnics. We would need permission from the marina, Coast Guard, and DNR to do the demo. And, probably ought to let the nearby airport know also.

Rick,

That sounds like a great idea...we can call the forum/demo, "Emergency Actions While Underway"...Is there anyone else who would like to add to this demo...make it a more informative class for those of us who don't have as much boating experience...i.e. Safety Equipment, Using an overboard rescue system, How to use the radio in a distress situation, Selecting a Boating Medical Kit, etc.

Perhaps we could contact the local Power Squadron or Coast Gaurd Auxillary and see if they are willing to come to the event. They have done so in the past at the rendezvous on the west coast. They provided the annual safety inspection for the boats, provided the annual safety stickers and general safety information. I would be happy to reach out to them or if someone else already has a contact, I will step aside.

You can also get the Department of Natural Resources to make a presentation (DNR) on boating safety etc. The Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center (CBEC) can also give presentations on the Bay and its inhabitants. The DNR Police training Academy is at Matapeake (5 miles South on Kent Island from Bay Bridge Marina) and CBEC is at Kent Narrows/Grasonville. The Coast Guard District for the area is Baltimore but they have a station in Annapolis and at Easton/Oxford so they are not too far away (the request will most likely have to go to Baltimore...contact info on their website.)

Good news for anyone who will trailer their boat to the Rendezvous. The Bay Bridge Marina will store the trailers for the Rendezvous participants. As we get closer to the event, we will make make necessary arrangements. I just wanted everyone to know so they can plan accordingly.

My husband and I have a 2006 R-21 Classic. We are still deciding on whether we can make the Rendezvous - but if we do - we are both US Coast Guard Aux Members and qualified to do Vessel Safety Checks. If folks wants safety checks - we could come without the tug for the day.

Thanks,

Moria and Eric

Tuggertoy,

That would be great if you can do Vessel Safety Checks. As we get nearer to the rendezvous, I will take a poll to see if folks still need to have one conducted...no sense having you come out if we all have ours done. 😉

As for deciding if you are coming with your tug...please let us know at your earliest convenience so we can add you to the list...as far as I'm concerned, the more the merrier!!! 😀

Adagio from Alabama will be joining the Chesapeake rendezvous, and will spend the rest of the month cruising the Eastern Shore, hanging out with my Great Pyrenees Tundra, rereading Michner's 'Chesapeake,' and joining the tall ships in Baltimore for the kickoff of the bicentenial of the War of 1812 and the writing of the Star Spangled Banner. I love that area and spent a fair amount of time there looking at larger trawlers, even though I had seriously considered the Ranger Tug and had looked at a nearly new one in Alabama. One day I was walking thru a boatyard and there was a new R-27 on stands, with the same beautiful dark blue hull. I walked around it and in an epiphanic moment my decision was made. . . a decision I have not regretted. Adagio stays in my boathouse on an inland lake, and is taken out a couple of times a year for longer cruises in different locations (a month on the St. Johns last spring; two weeks on the Tennessee last fall). Life is good.

I don't know right now if we'll be able to bring the Dory, but I'd like to bring the family and meet some new friends. Not only did we just move to MD from the West Coast, but we're working out some kinks in the new to us 1990 C-dory. Such as needing a new bilge, getting rid of a horrible fuel smeel due to a spill in the v-birth, needing a new GPS, and a real good old fassion cleaning! With that said we'd love to drop in spend some quality time with some new friends and share some stories.
And maybe get some good hints on fishing and crabbing the bay. 😀
Bryrick

Byrick,

I sent you a PM on what we are doing this weekend. Please join us Friday night and Saturday for some good company and lots of fun. If you can't bring your Dory, no worries, there are plenty of boats attending. 😀

The 2012 Ranger/Cutwater Chesapeake Rendezvous was a great success. 38 attendees on 13 boats!
The 2013 Rendezvous will be the first weekend in June, 2013. Make your plans now.

Rendezvous Summary:

Thanks to everyone for coming, volunteering, sharing, and making this a terrific event! This is a great event for the first of many years of Ranger/Cutwater Chesapeake Rendezvous'!

We wound up with 38 people and 13 yachts. We had a unique opportunity to share the customization of our boats, the experience of thunderstorms, the challenge of formation boating with aerial photography on the Chesapeake Bay, and most importantly the warm compassion and sharing of our unique boating family.

If you didn't make it this year, don't worry, just be sure to put it on your calendar for next year, the first weekend in June.

Thanks to Mark & Tony Schulstdat for their generous support of the event and to Chuck Wistar for all of his time and contributions.

We can't wait to see you next year for what will be an extraordinary event. I have posted a few pictures in my photo album if you are interested.

Hello to al the Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous crews,
Will any of you be at the Annapolis Boat Show this weekend the 12th, 13th and 14th of October? It would be fun to get together.

Tom,

Unfortunately, Tracey and I won't be able to make it due to another appointment, which is why we went to the Baltimore Trawler Fest a couple of weeks ago. 🙁

Quest will be there
