My wife and I are picking up our 2020 29S, “Dress Blue”, from Eastern Bay Yachting Center on Kent Island May 10th. We have a “tour” planned that includes Annapolis, Solomons, Oxford, Podickory Point and Carroll Island running from May 10th thru May 24th when we will bring her home to Cowesett RI. We are looking for dock & dine suggestions, day anchoring spots and generally any places we should or shouldn’t miss. We will also be in the bay for the Blue Angels airshow May 21 & 22 so a best place to anchor and watch would be great.

There are a few places in Kent Narrows that have nice decks on the water. The Tilghman Island Inn in Knapp's Narrows has great food. If you are in Oxford, go to the Scottish Highland Creamery. The original is right by the docs, but the newer location, with a lot more flavors, is a short walk.

Cambridge, Maryland is on the Choptank River not far from Oxford. I stayed at the Oasis-owned marina there. Facilities and staff were above average.

Cambridge has interesting old homes with unique architectural detail. Many are on the walk to Snappers Waterfront Cafe where you will find some of the best lump crab cakes to be had on the Chesapeake, much better than what I had at the famous place in Oxford. You will be dodging crab pots the entire time you are cruising the Chesapeake. Might as well make it worth your while.

I will give a hardy second to Scottish Highland Creamery in Oxford. It will make your knees buckle.

If you're looking for anchorages, there's a very nice one on La Trappe Creek off the north side of the Choptank River. It's about halfway between Cambridge and Oxford. The anchorage is on your port side as you enter the creek.

I can't advise you on where to go to watch the Blues, but be ready for lots and lots and lots of pleasure craft.

The Blue Angels is a great show. They perform a practice on Tuesday, and the show is on Wednesday. Very busy with boats along the Severn getting their anchoring spot. But once it's show time, it's calm, until it's over. Get there early, and wait out the rush after the show. Watching from the Severn gives you a really interesting perspective how they are doing their maneuvers.

There are mooring balls near the town and the Naval Academy, however they are first come, so I think you'd need to arrive at least a couple of days before. I'm not sure how the anchorage works there, or how quickly it fills up. Annapolis is a great town to visit, but Commissioning Week will be busy. You can attend a lot of the events such as the Herndon Climb the blue angels and the Commissioning Parade. The best view is probably at the Naval Academy. You just need an ID to get onto the yard.

Last year, I watched from an anchorage just east of the Route 50 bridge on the Severn. The section of the river along the Naval Academy will be closed so look for a notice about a month before the show.

That’s awesome! Great time to be in the area. We will be at Annapolis with our R27 the week of the 20th for Naval Academy Commissioning Week / Blue Angels.

Check out Annapolis City Marina. Easy arrival/departure and convenient to walk anywhere in the city. Also on property water taxi service to all points.

You have plenty of time to head south in the bay on the Eastern Shore to Crisfield, Onancock, Cape Charles, Tangier Island, and Smith Island head across the bay to Reedville, Solomons. So many places........
