Thanks for posting the link, Jim. If you dig around a little more on the Waggoner site you'll find the rest of my trip reports from my trip around Vancouver Island.
Fuel is available in each of the sounds on the west side of the island, so range really isn't an issue. The biggest challenge is likely weather. Be particularly cautious at Nawhitti Bar, Cape Scott, Brooks Peninsula, and Estevan Point. When the weather is right, go, and when it's not enjoy poking around the protected sound that you're in.
I found Quatsino Sound and Kyuquot Sound had few cruising boats. Columbia Cove and the Bunsby Islands, just south of Brooks Peninsula, are magical...probably my favorite part of the west side of the island.
Esperanza Inlet and Nootka Sound are fantastic as well, with a few more facilities and boats.
Go to Hot Springs Cove, but go early or late in the day. During the day tourists arrive by the dozen in sea planes and boats. The hot springs are best enjoyed without the crowds.
Clayoquot Sound has lots of anchorages and surprisingly few cruising boats. Tofino is a neat place to visit but the moorage situation is pretty awful. Not enough space and strong currents.
Barkley Sound has the best cruising of any of the sounds but its also the busiest. It's the only sound where I consistently shared anchorages with other boats. Ucluelet has an excellent large marina. You could always take the bus up to Tofino from Ucluelet.
Let me know if you have specific questions. The trip around Vancouver Island is fantastic and totally doable in a R25. Just plan on being self sufficient and patient with weather,
