I removed radio from panel and thinking I could switch some wires, plugs, was disappointed to see that the speaker wires lead from the rear panel directly to each speaker. Of course, at this point it would be a monumental task to rewire. Any ideas? Kit
That would be unusual. Most radios have a short harness coming from the rear, either with individually labelled wires for connection to power, ground, speakers, etc., or there is a multipin connector on the end of the harness in the form of a plug and socket, with one half connected to the radio and the other having the individual wires described earlier.
This makes it easy to remove the radio for service by just unplugging the connector halves from each other.
I would guess that somewhere fairly close to the radio there are connectors of some sort that join the wires leading to the speakers and those coming from the rear of the radio.
Unless there's a fault with the radio, I'd also guess that it's simply a case of the speakers being incorrectly wired.
Once you locate the connectors it should be simple to rewire as necessary.
While on the subject, it's important to make sure that the + and - speaker connections on the radio match to the + and - connectors on the speakers, or the stereo effect will sound really odd.
This is easily accomplished as virtually all speaker cable has a color trace on one of the wires. Just make it rule to use the marked wire for the + connection on both speaker and radio.
If you post the model of the Clarion radio I'll see if there's an online manual for it.
