What method is used to clean the air filter?
Has anyone purchased a replacement air filter? If so, from where?

Ours (2009 RT 25 Classic) looks similar in construction, but not shape, to the rechargeable K&N air filters I use in my cars and trucks. I clean it the same way as my other K&N filters. Almost all auto supply places will have a K&N clean+recharge kit.
PS: New air filters are really expensive!

I have been using the k&N cleaning kit for a few years on the same filter. I believe a new filter sells for around $125.00. I have a spare that I found on Ebay for a reasonable cost.

I also have the 4BY2-180 and have been wondering about the air filter. I asked the dealer for a replacement; he said they are too expensive, clean it and use the filter oil. My filter is pleated paper, sort of an oval/cone shape, framed with plastic, and encased with wire screen. I don't see any way to clean it.
I suppose I need to replace it with a foam filter, then I can clean and oil it. Can someone please share the make/model of filter to use?
Thanks.

Sounds like you have the filter that can be cleaned, as far as I know there was only one for these engines. Here's a pic of it on this link.http://www.mcssl.com/store/j-wayenterpr ... 464bb7f11d
I was way off on the price for a new one on my previous post, this sells for $168.75.
Get the K&N cleaning kit. Remove the filter from the engine and follow the directions in the kit. I'm able to wash it from the inside out by sticking the kitchen faucet inside the filter and flushing the debris out of the element. ( I usually do this when the Mrs. isn't around 😉 )

Thanks Brian for that info.
I will go looking for that K&N cleaning kit, then I'll pull the filter and see if I can clean it. My dealer recommended the spray oil for foam filters, but I haven't found any locally yet. I have some other filter oil left from my ATV days, maybe I'll have to use that for now. Will be harder to work it in and wring out excess with the wire screening.

The K&N cleaner+recharge kit is about $13 on Amazon and will last for several years.
I have one kit in the hanger for the airplane, one in the garage for the cars and one kit on the boat with the other cleaning supplies.

The kit comes with the oil that you will need, either in a pump bottle or spray can. Use it sparingly otherwise the filter will drip oil. You can probably clean the filter 4-5 times with one kit.
