NEW OWNER of Ranger 25 sharing a caveat that came with Coast Guard documentation: "The Coast Guard is currently 16-20 weeks behind....if you are taking a trip out of the country please contact my office."However, the government did not delay cashing my check. Haha

We also experienced a lengthy registration period. With that said the actual assigned documentation happens a lot sooner then the delivery of the documentation to you in the mail. If you go to http://www.st.nmfs.noaa.gov you'll come to there web sight where you can search for documented boats by boat name. Type in your boat name and this will take you to the page or pages of boats documented with that name. Scroll down to see if your boat is listed. If it is click onto your boat name and a page will come up that details your boat, assigned documentation number, owner, etc. Print this out to carry with you until the original paperwork arrives. In our case it was another 5 weeks or so.

on the good side though, the renewals come back in only a week.

I purchased Sea Holli on 10/18/2017. 1/17/2018 the documentation arrived. It was a surprise! The bank did it, I didn't.
But what the heck, I have it, I'm using it! LOL

What is "Coast Gaurd Documentation"? Who would need it? Why would you need it? Thanks.

There are lots of discussions about documentation process, pros, and cons. Here's a brief summary: Boatsafe.com

There's plenty of information on the web, and I'm sure others will chime in with personal experience and opinion.

Cheers,

Bruce
