I'm looking into processing the paper work to get our R27 Documented thru the U.S. Coast Guard and I have a question of fellow 27 Ranger Tug owners. It appears, based on my research that the 27's meet the gross tonnage requirement calculations but I wanted to check if others have been documented before I submit the paper work and payment. Once submitted the payment is processed, whether You pass the tonnage calculations test or not. Who's been documented or had any troubles doIng so please respond.

Hi Jim,

"Little Debbie" is documented. No issues getting this done. It was a requirement by the bank for the loan. It is listed on the certificate as 7 Gross tons, 5 Net tons.

It took a VERY long time to get the document, the application was done at the end of May and we received the certificate in late August.

I think the boat looks better without the state reg numbers on the bow. I put the state registration stickers on the side windows, the requirement is to have them on the forward half of the boat.

Our R25 is documented because Deborah thought it looked better than with the Ohio numbers on the hull. Only took about 5 weeks to complete the process. You shouldn't have any issues.

I documented my R27 as it was required by the lender and do not have state reg. #s on the bow, just the 4" square sticker on each side at the bow. It took about 3 months to get it done.

I just received my documentation for my R-27 last week.
Process started last October.
There was a clerical error on the origination document from Seattle but ALL was corrected.
I used a Documentation firm in Florida to handle everything and it was well worth it with my business travels.

Great people.

They also have a service to handle your renewals on a timely basis -- no hassle plans always work best for me.

And I too did not want the state number on Little Tug...

We had no problems documenting our R-27........it does take some time !!

What did the people who sold you the boat tell you?

Jim, check your paperwork from Fluid Motion, ours came with the CG builders form already filled out and ready for you to fill your form CG1258 out. You fill out form CG1258 available online and attach it with the CG builders form to send to Coast Guard. Should be simple and then follow the instructions for placing the name on the boat and attaching the number to the hull inside. We have filled out the form, but not sent it in yet.

Here is the form I received in my paperwork from Ranger Tugs:

CG-1261: Builder's Certification & First Transfer of Title (REV.1/10) For INITIAL DOCUMENTATION ONLY. Must be completed by BUILDER of the vessel. If more than one builder, each one must complete a form. Evidence of U.S. build is required for all Fishery and Coastwise vessels.

Here is the form you need to download and fill out:

CG-1258: Application for Initial Issue, Exchange or Replacement of Certificate of Documentation; Redocumentation. Completed by OWNER(s); submit an original or a copy of form, CG-1258.

Here is the fee schedule and instructions:

Recreation and/or Registry -- NO EXTRA CHARGE

Jim, I have registered Just Dreamin' (R25) with the USCG since we purchased her. Have found the process to be very easy and like clock work (one of the lucky one's I guess - no delays). USCG sends reminders that documentation renewal is coming due, fill out the form and about two weeks later renewal arrives. Once documented with USCG renewal is every year.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, suggestions and comments. Per Herb's suggestion I located the CG-1261 that I received from the factory when we purchased the boat and will submit this along with the CG-1258 form and funds and in 4 to 12 weeks we should be good to go.

Thanks again, Jim F

YOLO is documented. No issues.
