Coast Guard "Official Number" location

Hello all...I have a R27. Where is the best place to permanently install my [NO. XXXXXXX] plaque?

If yours is a 27 ob, I mounted mine on the underside of the center deck hatch. I can send a pic if you’d like.

Don't the numbers have to be permanently (ground in) to the structure of the boat?
I don't know that a plaque or a deck hatch would be allowed.

Mine were ground in with a dremel and then painted. (Previous owner did nice work)

Yes please, a pic would be great. There are a few online vendors who sell the plaques for approx $75 and I'd like to order and install within the next 30 days.

I'm seeing several online plaque locations but most/all seem to be in an engine room. Not sure where I'd ground in the number. Or have the skill to make it look nice.

The rule state something like this— the numbers be affixed in such a way that removal would cause some damage. So many people, myself included, have a plaque made and glue it somewhere inside. If you google “USCG number plaque” you will see many companies that make the plaque that meet the specs.

You can use a plaque as long as it is permanently attached . I was boarded last year, Coast Guard had no problem with it.

I have an R-27 classic. I used regular Mylar stick on numbers and then painted a couple of coats of clear epoxy over them.

For TOUCAN, we had Bay Engraving in Bellingham, WA, make our documentation number plate out of a two-color plastic sandwich. We used 5200 to attach it to the inside side of the starboard cockpit locker. We used a pair of sticks and wedged them across the locker to keep the plate in position for a week while the adhesive cured. Bay Engraving does a lot of these and is very familiar with the Coast Guard's requirements. In 2017, they charged us $73 including shipping and we received it quickly. The plate was beautifully done. We recommend them.

I just bought my document number plaque from Customhouse.com (cost: $60). It arrived 2 days after I ordered it. It is made of white acrylic with black engraved numbers. My plan is to use 3M- 4000UV or 5200 to install it on the flat panel at the rear of the fuel tank down inside the center deck compartment. This is part of the hull structure. Waiting for warmer weather to install is so adhesive cures properly.
