Does anyone know where to fuse is for the cockpit fridge? Our fridge under the helm seat works fine while the one in the cockpit does not. I thought that the fuse would be the place to start.

Hello,

Do you have the switch on for the cockpit fridge? It should be the port bottom "accessory" switch at the aft switch panel in the 1/4 berth entry. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks,
Kevin Lamont

I'm pretty sure our says 'aft refer' R-31S

Thanks.

We are off again on Thursday and I am going out to the boat to-morrow to prep for the trip and I will give it a try.

The manual mentioned a "aft refer" switch on the 12V panel as Robvic mentioned so that is what I was looking for and I didn't know that it was one of the "accessory" switches. Lots to learn still.

Overall, we love the boat and couldn't be happier.

I was on the boat to-day getting ready for our next little trip that has been delayed by two days because of weather forecasts.

The cockpit fridge works now that I understand an element of the 12V panel that was not obvious to me before and I got some help getting my MMSI set up on my VHF radio from Port Boat House (who are great by the way) so that I now have AIS in and AIS out on my 800.

Life is good.

Sounds like the breaker switch was off.

There are breaker switches for both the aft fridge and the main fridge on the 12 volt panels to the right of the door into the quarter berth (back of the dinette seat). The switches need to be on, and then the temp control inside each fridge needs to be on one of the cooling settings. If neither of those things is an issue, take a look at the Nova Kool manual, which has a troubleshooting guide. It may help. If it doesn't, call the support number in the manual. I've had to call them on the fridge on our first Ranger Tug, and the Nova Kool that we have in a Sprinter van. The support folks that answer the phones are patient and helpful, and should be able to sort it out for you if other trouble-shooting efforts fail.

One quick tip: The most common source of problems, according to the Nova Kool people, is low voltage to the unit (there is a cut out that will stop the fridge from running if voltage drops too low). I was 98% positive that was NOT my problem on my first Ranger Tug (an R27), because I kept getting strong voltage ratings at the unit. But I finally pulled the breaker panel (which is harder on the R27 than on the R31) and found a semi-fried connection on one prong. Voltage was evidently good at times and dropping at others, so the problem was intermittent (the worst kind of electrical/mechanical problem to have). I never figured out why the connection was semi-fried -- likely a bad crimp on the wire, or it wasn't screwed on to the breaker tightly. Whatever the cause,I replaced the crimp and put in a new breaker. Problem solved.

Moral of the story: Checking the voltage is one of the first (if not the first) troubleshooting steps in the manual. But know that checking the voltage can require more than putting a meter on the connections at the fridge itself. Trace the line to the breaker, and check the breaker itself. If both are good, check the battery bank as well.

Good luck!

Gini
