So, we've only spent 4 nights on our R-25 so far but ran into an interesting problem.

The middle cushion when used to form the bed seems to be about a half inch too narrow. What happens is we put it in place, put the front cushion in place, make the bed, and go to sleep. Then at some point in the night when the heavier of us (that would be the male of the species) has moved around, the cushion slides enough to one side that it drops down to the cabin floor and one of us is suspended by the sheet.

This was humorous the first time but got annoying pretty quickly. Has anyone else had this problem? Would like to hear so before I contact Ranger Tugs to ask about it.

It has happened to us on our R27 a few times but I'm not sure if the 25 and 27 cushions are configured the same. Assuming they are, ours has 4 starboard supports on the back side of the cushion, two on either side. These supports are meant to keep the cushion from sliding off of the track/rail that the cushion rests on. A thought would be, if there is a bit of slop, the two supports on one side or the other could be moved to the outside edge a bit further therefore reducing or eliminating the slop so the cushion will stay where it's supposed to. Let us know if this is what you find or if this works.

We had the same problem with our cushion on the R-27. I removed the four starboard stops and replace them with wooden strip stops running the length on either side of the cushion. The strips are about 1 inch wide and three quarters of an inch deep. I placed the cushion in position and then marked either side with a light colored pencil so you could see it on the backing. I then screwed the strips down leaving them a little bit away from the pencil mark. This seems to have resolved the problem. I think that the reason the cushion is a bit smaller is to allow its removal from the lower slot where it's resting while not in use.

I'm assuming you are referring to the squarish cushion that can easily be removed so you can sit down and have an easy position for putting on your shoes and socks... a phrase Jeff Messmer uses in his video Ad for the Ranger Tugs... 😀

We have a MY2010 R-25. We've not ever had this problem and the center aft cushion platform stays firmly in place under all conditions -- unless of course we remove it. There's absolutely no slop or bad fit as far as I'm concerned. My guess is that your cushion should be reworked to fit better. If your R-25 is new or still under warranty (or even if it's not) then contact Ranger Tugs service person and discuss this issue with them. This cushion falling down issue should not be a problem.

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll follow Baz' advice and talk to Ranger Tugs about this before I try any fixes myself. We took delivery of the boat in March so it's still under warranty. I'll let you know what they think...

I just took delivery of our new r25sc and had the same painful experience! I was thinking that I was doing something wrong, but now I feel better that I'm not the only one with this problem.

Let me know how you make out with a resolution, and I will share any developments on my end.

Per doke01, "Make sure you put the smaller cushion forward and the larger cushion aft. On ours the smaller cushion tends to fall out when placed aft."

And per commander bill, "I want to emphasize the previous post about installing the 2 cushions in proper order. The cushions have slight difference in width and I had an early painfull expereince when I stood on the rear cushion (which should have been placed in middle of berth). It appears the berth is designed with serval options to allow a step, seat, or storage depending on how you use the cushions"

I also noted the difference in cushion size in my R27. The wider cushion needs to be placed aft of the less wide cushion.

I had the same problem with my 2008 R-25. It turned out that I had the cushions reversed. Try switching the cushions and I bet your problem will be solved.

I echo what others said. It took me four years to realize, THE CUSHIONS ARE NOT IDENTICAL. One of them is smaller. The smaller one goes in front.

We just got home from a night on the boat. I should have checked this while we were up there. We solved the problem last night by shimming the cushion on each side so it couldn't slide. Now I think I've tried the cushions in every combination possible but maybe I haven't so I'll wait until we're back at the boat to try putting the cushion in a different position.

The way we've placed them before was the small cushion in the center and the larger cushion at the cabin entrance. I thought I had tried it with the small cushion at the cabin entrance and it was too narrow there but I'll try that again and see if that works.

The larger cushion does go at the cabin entrance. Since you already tried it that way, the problem lies elsewhere.

As mentioned above try reversing the cushions. I had a similar problem on my 2008 R25 until I noted that the wood tracks holding the 2 cushions were not exactly even (slight taper) such that the width is not same between front and back. The 2 cushons appear to be cut to fit rather than cut with perfect 90 degree corners. One cushion is slightly wider than other and works much better with corect cushion forward.

My problem was always the aft cushion falling off so it also sounds like the taper may not esist the same between boats and could be reversed???
