So the other day I was told to go to a decontamination facility in my county where they applied a high pressure 140 degree stream of water against the hull. The inspector at the lake thought he spotted zebra mussels however the decontamination facility couldn't find any evidence but there was a scum on the bottom of the bottom that they tried to remove.

My question, does the 140 degree water melt and "strip away" the wax finish? Can't find an answer on the internet. I just waxed the boat a couple weeks ago so it would be a bummer if it did as I would probably need to find a new type of "wax" to apply. I have a blue hull so want to stay ahead of any chalking or hazing.

Pressure washer AND 140º water? It would be hard to imagine that it didn't remove some of your wax. I'd suggest contacting a local boat detailer to ask for a recommendation. Good luck!

Saw this on the internet related to a car.
The Quick Answer
Using a pressure washer will not remove the wax or sealant on your car, unless used at a very high pressure. If the PSI of the pressure washer is below 1800, and you’re using a fan-type nozzle around a meter away from the car at a 45 degree angle then the wax, or coating will be fine.

TPAC,

Your boat ( if previously Odysseus?) has many many coats of 885 Collinite paste.....
The 140 degree water should not cut that. Pressure washing will probably be normal procedure for maintenance.
If you are concerned, check out the 845 Collinite Insulator wax as a top layer. Super stuff....
845 is a liquid and was designed for the electrical trades use and is detailed on Autogeek.net as a premiere heat resistant product with long durability to heat , chalking and UV and salt( not much salinity in Minnetonka eh?)

enjoy.........

HI Catch 22,

Boat was Odysseus, great little boat. Good to know that the many coats of wax are on it to keep it protected, i'll look into the wax you suggested.

Plan on taking it all over MN, WI, MI over the new couple years then move onto a bigger Ranger Tug.

We’ll be cruising the Mississippi and St. Croix in our R31CB “Hoppy Trails” all summer - maybe we’ll see you out there!

Tpac,
Good to hear Lecap will go on tour...so much good water in a reasonable circumference from you....You couldn't find a better trailer trawler for your exploring...the new Goodyear Endurance tires will serve you well in your travels...the Integrity trailer tows great and you will attract great conversation where ever you go....

Enjoy the 21....it will serve you well..

Wife and I will be going out on the St Croix in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully we'll see "hoppy trails" then.

The boat is a pretty easy tow. Did have some initial issues towing as the boat wasn't level and the residual vibrations from bumps were shaking us to pieces. It's improved some when I filled up the water tank and purchased a different hitch to raise the front of the trailer a couple inches.

The boat attracts tons of conversation everywhere I go so that's been fun.
