composite or alu propane tanks

has anyone found a composite or aluminum tank that fits in the locker? I've had enough of the rust stains from the steel tanks all over my swim step

My R27 has not been delivered yet, but I was wondering about the steel tanks and rust. These tanks are smaller than the typical grill tanks that I have. Do you trade them for full ones or have "your" tank filled? If you keep the same tank, maybe you could have the bottom half coated in something like Line X. Just a thought...

I ultimately ended up sanding the rust off the tanks and painted them with two coats of cold galvanizing and a couple finish coats of white enamel. Rounding the sharp edges a bit helps a lot as the rust usually starts there. I also added some vinyl webbing under the tanks so they don't touch and stain the floor of the locker and I rinse the locker with fresh water after each extended trip. So far so good but it has only been one year.

As others noted in the thread referenced above it is far less expensive just to buy new steel painted tanks than to even consider stainless steel even if you could find one in that size. I was unable to find that size in SS, aluminum, or composite anyway. If they start to be much of a problem again I plan to just buy new tanks next time.

We fill ours at our fuel dock. I have not seen an exchange that carries that size. I have only filled them once in two years and 300 hours of engine hours. They last a long time!

I need to touch ours up before the rust gets much worse. Besides sanding down and doing cold the galvanizing spray paint. I thought about getting some of the pickup truck bed liner paint. I would hope that that would be more abrasion resistant and keep the rust at bay a little longer.

I cleaned mine up and then cold galvanized. Then I took a small plastic garbage bag and slipped the tank into it. So far so good.
