i am replacing a 2014 Fusion stereo with a new Kenwood model and have a few questions. It is a simple system - a stereo connected to 2 existing sets of speakers. No other components planned in the future. I know this will cause me to abandon the connection between the stereo and the NMEA network. I'm not using that connectivity anyway. Q1) Do I have to put a cap on the NMEA cable to 'close off' the network? various suppliers call the part a 'terminator that provides the termination resistance to close the network. '
I'm inclined to clean up the wiring and cut out 2 existing connectors. I think all the wiring I'm looking at is factory installed. Starting with the speakers and house battery and moving towards the stereo the first connection has butt connectors to wiring harness #1. The second connection is a quick disconnect between wiring harness #1 and wiring harness #2. It looks like a pair of black plastic cubes. The third connection is wiring harness #2 hardwired to the old Fusion stereo. Q2) Should I make my cut between the speakers and the first set of butt connectors? There is a fuse in the new Kenwood stereo so I can abandon the downstream factory installed fuse in the cute little yellow housing.
