Considering captains chair for R27?

I find the seat at the helm station to be uncomfortable after an hour or so at the helm. I'm wondering if anyone has replaced the factory seat at the helm station with a "captains chair"? You know the kind- they have a padded seat, padded back and padded arm rests, such as those manufactured by Todd seats.

This is our first Ranger. We have owned numerous boats before this and all have come with a "captains chair".

If you have made the replacement, how difficult was it to mount to the existing Ranger mount?
 
I alternate between standing and sitting. If you change seats, you may not be able to fold it up for more counter space.
 
I would look at finding a used car seat in a junk yard. Measure up what you have and see what the space will allow. Car seats at a junk yard can be a much better deal than some boat approved pieces offered by marine suppliers . Some have adjustable lumbar support. I would look to see where you might be able to find a wrecked Mini Cooper or another up scale smallish car in a junk yard. Most have adjustable seat height and already fold. Maybe even a single rear passenger seat of the foldable variety such as the ones that are in the back seats of mini vans and smaller s.u.v's. Just a thought.
 
If anyone finds a suitable automotive style replacement captains seat with functionality same as new for R25-27 please post it. Thanks

Just a quick follow up. I have emailed Andrew Custis at Ranger Tugs, since I see that he is listed as the contact person for this boat. I have asked him for the name of the manufacturer of the custom seat shown in the photographs. I will post here when I hear back from him.
 
The issue I see with that seat installation is that the seat appears to be bolted down through the fore/aft mechanism directly to the countertop. That means you are losing lots of valuable countertop space. I would consider a replacement helm seat but only if there was some was some way to have it retain the vertical hinge, allowing the seat to tilt forward to the wheel like it does with the factory seat.

I agree..... I wonder if that seat could just be mounted on a hinged plate so it could be tilted forward?

FYI... I contacted Andrew Custis at Ranger Tugs. He and Ivan responded very quickly with the information that the seat is a Tempress and that you can find them on their website tempress.com and on many other online stores like Bass Pros.
 
If anyone replaced a flaking helm seat on a classic R27 with a Tempress model, which precise helm seat did you choose? There are several on the Tempress website that look like they might fit, although none seem to be exactly the same width, etc.. Also, how hard was the process of switching out to the new seat? Does it just bolt on the existing mount? Thanks for any input.
 
I bought a Tempress NaviStyle Low back Captains chair. I think Bass Pro shops has the best price online. It fit the existing seat bracket without problem, the cream color with brown inserts matched the existing vinyl and now matches the recovered dinette seats. I did modify the seat bracket by removing the swivel portion. I didn't feel the need to turn the seat and dangle my feet over the fridge. It folds just like the original seat. I recently spent 10 hours in it each way to and from San Diego to Catalina island without any major discomfort.
