I’m noticing all of you tugnuts out there in so many great cruising grounds; South Florida, ICW, Chesapeake, Great Lakes, SoCal etc. it makes me wonder if anyone had considered or done a boat swap of similarly outfitted boats in order to cruise in exotic, to you, locations. A trip north through the Salish Sea for a trip along the Ga. Carolina ICW for instance. This forum could be a good Place connect and start a talk about a swap.

There is at least one discussion of this in the history. Most comments regarded how personal a boat is in its use and folks were loath to trade to an unknown user. You might try to look it up under various terms such as swap, trade etc.

I thought that was the reason why the ranger tugs are trailerable thusly eliminating the swap needs

Granted the concept is great, but it gets bogged down with the personal attachment, trust in the borrower, liability, potential damage etc. This concept is similar to Freedom Boat Club and Plane Shares, which has a middle man to handle all the "fuzz" that gets in the way of a simple swap. It is all about mindset and I think only on a rare occasion will it work.

I posted this idea a while back and it got vague interest but no real traction. Others have posted after this. The fact is, most people occupy their boats with their own stuff (from tooth brushes to fishing gear) and are possessive about their big toy. So this is hard to do, but I still think it is a good idea. We have moved up to an R-29CB, so would insist on swapping for a like product, of course. Here is the original post:

Another issue is insurance. I've owned charter boats in the past but when I looked into a vrbo type thing for my boat my agent said I wasn't covered.
