I ordered two after cooler zincs via Cummins Power South because one zinc lasts for about eight months before it needs replacement. Total cost From Cummin$ for two zincs $328.57. $255.06 for the two zincs that should not have cost more than $20, shipping $44.47 for less than one pound, environmental charges $8.99 for God only knows what because I saved the old zinc, and lastly a $20.05 for FL sales tax for all of the above. This is what I would call a first class rip-off.

Almost as good a deal as their filters. :?

Just got the same sticker shock from my local dealer. Of course, it's not just a zinc, it's "an assembly". Oh, that explains it!

An E-2A Engine Zinc Anode - 1/2 NPT cost $6.50 and is about the same size as the after cooler zinc on the Cummins QSD. Gee whiz, you can buy 20 zinc anodes for the same cost as one Cummins zinc. I think it is high time for Cummins to review some of their commonly used parts prices :!:

Cummins is aware that there parts prices have been out of line for the QSD2.0L. We have been working with them on this issue and the prices have actually come down in recent weeks. We anticipate them coming down further. This may not be reflected throughout their entire dealer network. I would encourage anyone that needs any maintenance items to contact us at the factory. We are going to pass our parts discount on to any Ranger Tug owners with a QSD 2.0L engine. Oil filters, Fuel filters, zincs etc. Andrew has posted the most common parts list for the QSD motors. Just give us a call or e-mail for pricing.

Thank you,

Jeff

I just spoke with my local Cummins dealer about the excessive charges concerning the 2 engine zincs. I asked about the $44.47 shipping charge for less than 1 pound of zincs. I was told that Cummins charges a percentage of the cost of goods for shipping charges, that comes to about 18%.

Today, Cummins Power South is installing a new ECM. My friendly local Cummins parts manager said that most Cummins ECMs cost about $250±. The ECM for the QSD 2.0L cost over $1,800. If one were to apply their 18% cost of goods for shipping charge formula, it would come to $325 just to ship the part!

The 2 zincs are being delivered with the ECM so I'm stuck with paying the preposterous price of $328.57. The Cummins QSD 2.0L is good engine, BUT I'm now having second thoughts if I would want to own one!

HI Everybody

I do not yet have a boat, being from Canada I'm waiting patiently for our dollar to recover. However I am reading everything posted on this site with eager anticipation of having my own R25. This post and others has me curious. I've been a do it yourself kind of guy all my life and build or fabricate anything I can't lay my hands on. That being said I believe someone has likely done it before. So to the Internet and I find a supplier of boat engine zincs at this link:

http://www.boatzincs.com/engine.html

Now I have been a Cummins guy with Dodge trucks for decades but I would bet they would use off the shelf solutions to save themselve money. The zincs listed have standard thread sizes with a variety of lentgh zincs. Is it possible these are the same? Or could be slightyly modified to fit. My bench grinder has created many a fix in my shop!

I have this same curiosity over oil filters. I've created remote filter hook ups for cars using a mixture of parts and converted to a more common Fram filter. Filtering oil is the objective not the price of the filter and I'm cheap!

I am finding boats to be a collection of various items of convenience on a floating structure so this excites me because I can add anything and make it work. I can't wait to buy one!!

I'm interested in feedback on my suggestions being more of a car and motorcycle guy I admit I'm new to boats.

Good luck, Leon

Here is what Ranger is going to offer. I am going to get a new quote under our pricing from Cummins directly. We are willing to pass this price along. You will have to pay the price listed + shipping. Cummins is working very hard at making the price come to reasonable amounts. I will have an updated Cummins Parts quote with the zinc prices on there as well. You might want to hold off on your zincs until I list these prices Henry. Thanks for your feedback.
