There seems to be a lot of discussion on the forums about where to get Yanmar parts etc. but not so much discussion about the Cummins/Mercruiser 150hp. Couple of questions:

1) anyone have a third party part number for the engine oil filter?
2) ditto for secondary fuel filter?
3) does Cummins sell engine parts or do you have to go through Mercruiser?
4) Do either of them care?

Thanks,

Well I found the answer to number three in my list. I spoke with the local Cummins rep who said that they have to order the parts from Mercruiser even though they are actually made by Cummins. He said if I find a way to cross reference the part numbers he can sell me the Cummins parts but he does not have a magic de-coder to do so.

Any Tugnuts found said part number cross reference de-coder?

We are going to use Forked River Diesel and Generator. Mid New Jersey on the coast. They are a Volvo Penta diesel and Cummins authorized dealer. The owner is John Lane who has a good reputation. I'm going to use them for our Volvo's first service. Phone 609 242 8448.

For anyone who's interested, there is a pretty good on-line source for Mercruiser parts with a presence on both Amazon and eBay. Pricing is a bit lower than anyplace else that I've found and they are prompt. The outfit is Buster's Marine and they are in New York state. On eBay they go by "boater152" for some reason though all invoicing etc says Buster's Marine. They won't ship to Alaska through their Amazon site which offers free shipping but will through eBay with shipping charges. But those of you in the lower 48 can get the free shipping on Amazon. They sell oil filters for about $12.50 and the secondary fuel filter for $48.50. I also just purchased an oil pressure sensor for about $100 versus $130 at the next cheapest place I could find. For $3 they shipped it USPS Priority and I had it in three days.

For what it's worth...

I put together a spreadsheet for my 2008 R25 Cummins 150
its an excel spreadsheet with links to the websites where I found the parts / Spares.
If anyone knows better places to purchase , please PM me or go ahead and update the spreadsheet online.

I plan on updating with other boat parts I have had to replace like bulbs as well.

I've got a similar spreadsheet of my own but without the links. When I get a little time I'll look up links and add them to the sheet. I see you're already using Buster's Marine via Amazon. Their oil filters are a bit cheaper than the source you have listed.

can you can update the link for the oil filter ? or send the link for the oil filter from amazon and I will update.
I made this so the tugnuts community can update the spreadsheet with the best sources.,

I have been getting most of my consumable parts directly from Ranger. They have a list of the parts they have for the Cummins engine - prices seem reasonable to me. Ask Andrew - he hooked me up. They shipped them right away, no pain/no strain.
