We just completed our survey on a 2018 R31-CB. The surveyor called out the (factory) curtains over the stove as a priority issue, saying that they should either be fireproof or secured so that they can't actually be closed over the stove (fire hazard).

The only way to test for fireproofing is to... light something on fire. So we won't do that.

But I'm thinking perhaps theres a chance they shipped fireproof from the factory?

Ranger factory reps, can you say whether this is the case or not? Thanks!

I installed tie backs on all the curtains. No fire accidents yet.

If I recall correctly I think the factory has eliminated the inside curtain over the stove on current models. A interior curtain was on our recently sold 2018 R29S but it had a tie down strap to keep it away n closed while operating the burners. The boat also had an exterior canvas cover to put on the outside of the stove window so one didn’t need to use the interior curtain. Maybe more can/will chime in.

On my 2016 C26 the factory curtain stops just before the EL-stove. An inside factory canvas cover covers the window at the stove.

On my 2019 R31 sedan, the curtain behind the propane stove has a tie back, and there is also a canvas cover that can go on outside. I use a small bungee to role it up from the boat Tom so that it hangs down only about 12 inches or so. But safer still is that the curtain track is solid from the aft corner above the stove all the way over to the curtain over the forward sink. I’ve never felt a need for privacy while cooking, so I never try to keep the curtain over the stove closed for that purpose. When cooking, I slide it along the track all the way forward (I.e., to the left) until it is over the sink.

Bottom line: that curtain strikes me as a fire hazard if draped across the window while cooking. So it is important to manage it, but that is easily done.

Thanks all! It's less a question of managing it, more a specific question to satisfy the survey/insurer (it was listed as "critical must be addressed"). It is already tied back, but that wasn't totally sufficient for the surveyor.

Just remove the curtain and be done with it.

I'll answer this from a different perspective.

We have a 2019 R27-OB that had no curtain over the propane cooktop but required going out on the gunwale to snap on an exterior window canvas for privacy. This wasn't convenient, especially if the weather was inclement.

We ordered material and hardware to fabricate/install a curtain over the cooktop to match other curtains installed by the factory. We did this with our eyes wide open!

We understood the dangers but figured we could be smart enough and careful enough to avoid those dangers. So far it's worked out well!
