Subject: Cutting extra cabin door keys using RT's provided blanks
I purchased two extra cabin door key blanks as part of my new boat spares kit from RT. In past week I got around to having the blanks cut at my local ACE hardware store.
Ace was nice enough to not charge me a dime for their key cutting service. I came away with the two blanks cut to replicate the original supplied by RT with the boat.
Yesterday I tested the new two keys. One worked without issue while the other simply would not work and almost got stuck in the cabin door's lock.
I returned to my ACE hardware store with my story and they looked very closely at the key that didn't work and compared it with the original. They did see some differences and recut the extra spare once again.
On return to my boat to test this key I found it worked without issues.
So, if you do have extra keys cut be sure to verify they work... 😱
