Cutwater 26 PORT-A-GEE For sale

Loral and I have decided to sell Our C26 after a fantastic winter cruising on board. We have been segment Looping for 5 years while we have been working. I retired 2 years ago and have had the pleasure of spending more time on board. I enjoy working on the boat as much as I do cruising in it. I love boats!!! Loral retired while we were in Marathon this winter and says this was the time of her life she enjoyed the full time cruising on board PORT-A-GEE so much she didn't want to quit. We loaded the boat on the trailer and towed it back to Chicago the end of April and put the boat into storage so I could do my yearly maintenance and inspections and get it ready for another year of cruising. We were talking about out future adventures and NOT ME but my wife says. Lets do this cruising thing full time for a couple of years. I was thrilled. I said I'm getting the boat ready we will leave in August. Loral then said I would like a bigger boat. My first response was :|. ( has much complaining as a do about my boat I really like it!!!) My next thought was :shock: And it is up for sale. If it sells we will be in the market for a different boat??????. The market is short on new and used right now so that may be a hard find. If it doesn't sell I will be cruising again in PORT-A-GEE in a couple months. I just listed it on TugNuts, I will be putting on AGLCA and when I get pictures taken this week I will be listing it on Boat trader. This was a tough decision for me.

Brian: Good luck with your sale and boat buying decisions. I understand your mixed emotions. After I retired last June we decided it was time to spend more time on a bigger boat and ordered a R29 in September and put our R25 up for sale. We enjoyed the R25 and cared for her like we would keep her for the rest of our boating years. We at least had the foresight to order the new one before the huge back order delays and the latest inflationary cycle. There are days I really miss going to the garage and visiting the old R25 while waiting for the final custom work to be done on the 29. As many on this forum have stated in the past, we always appreciate your comments and voice of experience shared on this site. Todd

It'll sell. I'm sure of that. The challenge will be what's available for you to buy. Might want to get your order in now for the Cutwater 32 with twin Yamaha's! 😀

I met Brian when we were doing our loop in 2017. We were at Spring Brook Marina on the Illinois River. Brian took me over to a boat storage shed to show me Port-A-Gee and I remember thinking how beautifully maintained she was, looked brand new everywhere. I would assume that that is still the case and that she would be a great buy!

Congrats on the transition to Brian 2.0! Whoever ends up with Port-A-Gee will no doubt have the finest maintained and upgraded Cutwater on the market. So glad the Great Loop experiences led the both of you to want even more boating. There are a lot of people here in the Pacific Northwest that would love to meet you in person and get you out on the water during the transition, so please let us know when you make the trip out west. Your advice, photos and comments have been a huge help to me and many others as we learn more about our boats.

Todd, we didn't have the fore site because I wasn't planning on not cruising in PORT-A-GEE. We went for a test ride on a used C30 at EdgeWater Perdido Key on our way back from Ft Myers. They had a used 30 Cutwater Available that had a contract on it. Emile said he had nothing to sell and no build dates open. No outboard dates at all because of lack of engines. I would be purchasing an inboard if I went that direction. So yes, it is not really a good time to sell if you want to go boating. I want to go boating!!!

Matt, the 43' would be nice and be very comfortable but does't quite fit the boat budget.

Rick, I remember talking to your wife and you, I have your boat card in my 2017 segment section. We had just finished our segment from Racine to Green Turtle Bay and I just brought the boat to Spring Brook for winter storage. My boat is in the same building that it was when I showed it to you. I'm going there today to work on it.

Submariner, I really like outboards but I'm going to stick with inboard or inboards for the type of cruising we will be doing.

Haifisch, A prerequisite for 2 to 3 years of full time cruising is a season of cruising in the PNW. Depending on what we purchase we may need to have it transported to PNW. My wife says we are going there!!!

This is likely the finest and most well maintained version of the cutwater 26 (or any cutwater!) thats ever been on the market. - I can't imagine you will have any issue selling and there is going to be a very lucky new owner out there.

I'm curious what boats are on your shopping list?

I would certainly like to keep you in the ranger cutwater family as your contributions to this forum have been so great! Onward to the next chapter of life and thank you!

A boat that has a larger water capacity, larger fuel capacity, enclosed shower. I would like it to have a cruise speed in the 21kt range and WOT 30 kts, Diesel preferred but I'm not stuck on that. I like the diesel engine for the fuel economy at slower speed, and the safety aspect of them. The issue with all my wants is $$$$$$.$$ the first number seems to be between 3 to 6 for what we want. The next issue that I have found in the last month of looking, when I see a boat that interest me I call my broker and it has a contract on it. I found a East Bay 38 last week that we really liked. Being a East Bay it was older to be in my price range. The boat looks Pristine, but it doesn't appear to have had engine maintenance done to my standards. 3208 Cats with 2600 hours. In talking to the Cat service center near me about 20K in maintenance needed and I still have engines that have 2600 hours. Well maintained and operated the way they would be in a East Bay 38 2000 to 2100 rpm they are 5000 hr engines. The same engines in a Grand Banks operated at 1200 to 1500 rpm are 10,000 + ( If well maintained )

C30 Cutwater
34 Nordic Tug
34 American Tug
32 or 34 Back Cove
34 Mainship Pilot

Trawlers are not off the list but I'm not sure I want to go that slow.

Aft Cabins are not off the list if under 40' and diesel.


Right now the market is strong. I sea trialed a C30 with a 370 hp. It was not in prestine condition but had potential. I thought about it too long. sold! I found another C30 same motor low hours called on it sold ! Mainship pilot 34 pristine !!!! Blue hull all new electronics called on it under contract!!! There have been many more. I thought the East Bay was the boat. But having second thoughts.


My C26 is getting bigger every day !!!! Maybe I should .........

we have similar requirements to you. I'm interested in the Back cove, grand banks, and sabre express cruisers.

i like the Cut 30. but im not sure its enough of an upgrade from the 28. even from a 26 im not sure its worth the increase in cost. theres a used 2015 for 239K right now. which strikes me as too much cash. these prices are at least 40K- 50K up from 12 months ago.

the market is so hot right now, there were some used reasonably priced sabres that have now been snapped up.

we are almost thinking of selling our 28 and just waiting for the market to come back in 24 months.

I talked to some brokers and they are telling me that many folks that are purchasing boats have never been on the water and have no idea what they are getting into. The brokers prediction is that within 2 years there will be a flood of boats on the market. Maybe another option is to sell, then find something to occupy yourselves and then in 2 years you may have your pick at some very nice boats at an excellent price. No guarantee but an interesting thought.

A smart person would do that, wait a couple of years. For me, when it comes to boats and being smart, (Smart loses)!!!! We plan on being on the water this fall continuing our adventure. If PORT-A-GEE sells it will be in another boat ( I'll find one) If it doesn't I will be very happy cruising again in PORT-A-GEE. ( my wife doesn't log into TugNuts) " Fingers crossed" 😱 😀
