Looking for some advice as to where people sleep (V-berth or cave) on their Cutwaters or Rangers. Let us know why you prefer your chosen location. Any insite would be greatly appreciated.

The cave is a little too claustrophobic for me, but the v-berth was a little too firm. I purchased a custom 4" latex mattress topper for the v-berth from Yacht Bedding. Made all the difference in the world.
 
The Cave is a great storage area . Maybe ok for a child to sleep in. When we first purchased the boat our adult daughter slept in the cave for one night. She didn't complain but said she would sleep on the table Berth from now on. We removed the mattress and I installed carpeting and it is used for storage now. The Grand children go down and lay down on the floor.








The V-Berth was a firm bed . We purchased a 3" king size Memory foam mattress and cut it to the Berth dimensions. Then encased it with a zip on cover. We then made two more Zip on covers that slide over the encased memory come Mattress.These are used as our mattress sheet. We sleep very comfortably in the V-berth. We added a an additional TV in the V-Berth for viewing while laying in bed.


 
For the people that sleep in the v-berth. What direction do you sleep? I am 5'10" and my wife is 5'11" and we find we can only sleep head aft with our feet stuffed under the anchor locker to fully stretch out.
 
We are probably in the minority on this one as we sleep with our heads towards the bow. We are both side sleepers so it works out. We also keep all the cushions in place, getting out during the night is easy as you only have to scooch out on your butt and not disturb the other person.
 
We sleep in the V berth with heads aft. We cut 2" memory foam and made fitted sheets for each cushion. Major improvement! We removed the cushion in the cave and use it for storage. I even mounted an extra 30 gal water tank in there. We generally don't have overnight guests so we leave the settee berth cushion at home.
 
we sleep in bow with feet to the bow. have installed a memory foam pad to soften the cushions.

I have wondered about making the seat backrest under the mirror removable to make it more comfortable for the feet. but its not really that bid a deal.
The biggest issue is the light switches when lying that way are at the wrong end.

It is removable, lifts up and out giving much more room for feet.
 
I typically sleep with my head aft in the V-berth. The only issue I have which may be just my imagination, is that laying that way I feel my head is lower than my feet - and I find this a bit disturbing until I fall asleep.

To get out of the V-berth bunk I will fold up my legs as much as I can and swivel around 180º on my bum (swiveling in this manner on a foam mattress is not easy at all so we don't use that form of softening the stock cushions) and then unfold my legs to reach the flooring surface, and if want the head it's right there for me as we have the R-27/OB with the head forward rather than it being aft in the cabin.

We use sleeping bags so there's no pulling sheets about from each other or having feet touches etc. :lol:
 
R-27 Classic here. I decided before I even bought the boat that the v-berth would remain a bed 100% of the time - all cushions remain in place. As many others have said, the cushions were too firm for my SO, but OK for my back. So I opted for the Yachtbedding "Topper" setup (sheets, comforter, etc). The price was astronomical, but the comfort is undeniable and I can still (not so easily) get into the storage areas without removing everything. We sleep heads aft. I find the footsies thing downright desirable at times, BUT back on topic... I do not want to make the table into a bed each night (been there, done that in an RV), and too much of a hassle in the mornings while trying to drink coffee/ eat breakfast with late sleepers, so that remains set up 100% of the time also. If we ever do have weekend guests, I'll make an exception. I also like to be able to just sit at the table or laydown (head forward) and "rest my eyes" for 30 minutes or so during the day without having to transform the location first. As for the cave, forgetaboutit, storage only - where would I put all my 'stuff'?

Why i came across this thread i do not know but hillarious reading. Second only to the dog and pet comments. Do the pets get first or second choice?
