After the removal of the aftercooler on my D3 I noticed the oil cooler coolant hose laying tight against the engine stringer. With the aftercooler in place it is hard to see the cooler and hose unless you're looking for it. I reached down and pulled the hose away from the stringer to find it worn from rubbing on the stringer. There appears to be about 50% of the thickness on the hose worn away. During the engine install at Fluid Motion the technician should have installed a softer on the hose to protect it or notch the stringer so that there is clearance between the hose and stringer. I would assume there are many more out there with the same issue.D3 owners I would add this hose to your inspection list to see if it is laying on the stringer like the photos show below.

This hose has engine coolant in it. A rupture would drain coolant from engine and would be difficult to repair/replace without removal of aftercooler.

After seeing your post, I looked..,(needed an inspection mirror)
Glad to say stringer was appropriately notched with no sign of wear on the hose at all. D3-150G 480 hrs

Hi Brian,
So what is a softer? I looked at the hose on my D3-200i and it is snug against the stringer so I can’t really pull it away to look at it. I don’t see any sort of notch that is in the stringer. The part of the hose I can see looks OK.do you think some sort of rubber sheet or other material should be put between the stringer and hose?

That is how my hose was tight against the stringer no notch no softener. It is hard to get to with the aftercooler in place to inspect wear. I'm going to replace the hose and protect it with a small piece of 3/4" heater hose slit so I can wrap it around the oil cooler hose in the area it touches the stringer. This will protect it from wear in the future.
