When we start up our engine, we get a substantial amount of white smoke, which goes away once engine is running - any ideas why?

Could be a few reasons. Condensation in the exhaust system could be one. You could post a picture of the smoke, that might help.

Thanks Martin. Will try to do that.

The sample I took when changing fuel filters was faulty - from the top of the bowl. New sample (from the bottom - duh!) showed sediment and possibly gas in my fuel. Having the fuel tank cleaned and pumped out and fingers crossed this was the culprit. Fueled up wtih 120 gallons a couple of weeks ago in in Kingston and no fuel added since.

Are things better after cleaning out the tank? Who did you use? Was it diesel bug leaving sediment in the bottom of the tank?

Totally cleared up after cleaning the tank. No clue on how that much GAS got into our tank. We used Petro Clean. Not only gasoline in our fuel tank but quite a bit of sediment. 120 of 180 gallon fill up in Kingston before the problem arose. Contacted htem and they stated they had no fuel problems or mishaps at their tanks.
