I started this thread about Kirkland oil towards the end of January: http://www.tugnuts.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=21473&sid=694cd6a2d1092d2d2ff2fee8a6b6ae81. I, too, am about to shift over to Kirkland. Price is good even with home delivery. Blackstone Labs gave it a strong thumbs' up for being a Dell 400 equivalent. In the end, I fall into the same camp as Knotflying, who in the earlier thread posted:
If I find after shifting to Kirkland there is any kind of negative change in my Blackstone Lab oil analysis results, I'll sure let everyone know. But my hunch is the results will continue to look good, at least as long I'm changing oil and filters at appropriate intervals and a problem doesn't arise from some source other than the oil I'm using.

I think oil is based more on marketing than anything else. The weight and API information is what matters to me. Has anyone ever asked a mechanic as to why they say X is better than Y? I have used several different brands of oil in my driving life and have never had an engine failure related to an oil brand. I tend to do my own service and keep my boats and vehicles for many years. Granted I stick with Mobil -1 or Rotella, but have over time used everything from Sears to Amsoil and never had an oil related issue. IMO, go with specs and change oil and filter regularly and you can't go wrong.
