De-Winterization

We are getting ready to bring our Ranger Tug (2019 - 27') out of winter storage. We are rookies at this! This will be our first spring with the boat! We are in Ohio, so we used antifreeze to winterize the boat before putting it in storage. To do this, we watched the As the Prop Turns episode about winterization. We've also watched As the Prop Turns: Spring Maintenance 1&2. We've taken notes, made lists, and watched parts of the episodes more than once. We want to ask this group this question - What should we spend the first few days doing as we get the boat ready to go back into the water for our first spring? Thanks so much!

Welcome. If the boat has not been plugged in over the winter then plugging it in to get a full charge is in order. Check all fluid levels n adjust accordingly. You’ll need to flush your water system out by filling the tank up and running faucets about 3 tank fulls.....assuming you RV antifreezed the system. Before the boat is launched put the plug in, open your seacock valves to the engine, generator if you have one and at launch open the hatch with the boat in the water but the truck still at the ramp. Make sure you have no water leaks. Turn the fuel lines on if you had turned them off. Start the engine and inspect to make sure water exhausts out the exhaust discharge and make sure no other leaks in engine room. Now park the truck. Do your first launch on a slow day, mid week if possible..... that way there is no or little ramp/launch pressure. This should help get you started.

I live near Louisville, Ky. A Freeze Watch has been issued for the morning hours of Thursday and Friday. It’s forecast to get down to 21°. I recommend that you wait to dewinterize until this last gasp of winter has passed.
