2014 Cutwater 28: I need to fill my inside the hull depth sounder transducer cup. The top section of the cup will not turn. The screws are missing and the plastic cover is off but the actual "plug" will not rotate. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

are you sure its not actually just glued on directly with no cup? Mine was.

when it failed it was because the glue had failed (cracked)

Thanks for this suggestion that the transducer might be directly affixed to the hull. That is not the case with my installation, it is in the cup. My fear is that the last owner may have used some type of sealant to bond the transducer into the cup. I hope not. I may try to (carefully) heat the plastic cup to try and free the seal. Any other ideas will be much appreciated.

Well, I took another look at the sounder transducer, and you are right, it is glued to the hall without a cup. Thank you so much for pointing this out as I would have destroyed the unit trying to get it off. Now my question is how do I make the sounder work, what I see is a flashing depth number that does not change with actual water depth.

Mine did the same thing with flashing the last number and didn't work

I would try again to get it rotated off to check if there is fluid in the cup. All mine needed was a top off of some anti-freeze and it went perfectly back to working. One of the few boat jobs that was completed without a hiccup.

This was my experience switching from direct glue to cup use. Photos in thread.

Short version

Ripped it off.
Cleaned off glue off boat and transducer.
Glue on new cup with 4200 (not 5200)
Fill with glycol.
Then struggle with o ring stopping it leak. 🙂

The reason I did it was it stopped working as in heavy seas the glue cracked and a hairline crack formed between the airmar and the boat in the 4200 that stopped the airmar having a strong connection with the boat.

Thanks, I ordered a new "cup" and will try to remove the transducer from the hull and reinstall using the cup as designed. I appreciate your help with this issue.

When our depth finder stopped working, I found the transducer lying free on the floor of the hull (no cup in sight). We purchased a new cup, glued it to the hull and the transducer easily screwed into the top of the cup (1/4 turn). We filled it with anti freeze and all is well.

Where did you purchase the transducer cup?
Thank you,
George
