Desolation Sound June 2020

This is very cool, but unfortunately, I have no way to go with you, although I really want this for a long time

OK folks, we've officially delayed the trip by 1 week to give things a chance to open up. We're now planning on Saturday June 27 through Saturday July 11. Based on what I'm seeing, and the latest Waggoner's webinar, we're hopeful towns and marinas will be open then. We're now planning an itinerary for a San Juan Islands only trip, as I'm not holding my breath for the Canadian border to open before then. However, if the border does open before or during these dates without quarantine restrictions, we'll toss that itinerary overboard and scoot up into the Gulf Islands.

I know this trip has twisted and turned in light of the whole Covid thing, but if any of you are still interested in our itinerary and think you might want to join for parts of the trip, please let me know via this thread, PM, or danm5620@aol.com. Right now there are two of us buddy boating, Toki and Blue.

Fingers crossed!

We are totally flexible with regard to destinations and we are looking forward to casting off and getting underway!
No matter where we go, we plan on having fun!
Roxie & Bill on Blue.

We might be interested in part of the trip.
Do you have a new itinerary?

Very tentative itinerary. 1st week mostly on the southern side of the islands (Lopez, San Juan, Cypress etc.), July 4 at Roche Harbor, then 2nd week mostly on the northern side of the islands (Stuart, Sucia, Matia, Patos). My wife and I will be spending 2 nights ashore; an AirBnB on a beach at Lopez week 1, and Rosario Resort week 2. Of course, ALL of this is dependent on restrictions getting lifted which is still up in the air, but I'm hopeful we'll have good news in the next week or two.

I suspect the islands will be busy right after restrictions lift. Once that happens, I'll probably make a couple marina reservations. Then other than the marinas, stays on land, and 4th of July, we're trying to stay very flexible on destinations, with several alternate destinations each day.

Sorry I can't be more definitive right now, but with the current situation things will probably be fluid up until the trip. If any of you plan to be in the islands during this time, it would be great to meet up with you. keep an eye on this post for updates.

Looks like the San Juans have partially lifted restrictions, and marinas, state parks and towns are now open to boaters, although at partial capacity. Looks like the trip is ON!

If anyone's interested in meeting up along the way, here's the itinerary for Toki and Blue:

Blue and Toki have made reservations at the marinas shown. If any of you are thinking of marinas, They're currently operating at 50% capacity and I imagine they'll fill fast. Reservations advised.

Keep in mind, as with any cruising itinerary this is subject to change along the way based on weather, crowds, etc. If the Canadian border opens before or during this trip, we may just toss the whole itinerary overboard and head north.

Hope to see some other Tugnutters out there! Feel free to PM or Email me if you'd like to coordinate.

Hey boys and girls, I don't know if anyone's still keeping an eye on this post. There was originally quite a bit of interest in this trip, but it's gone through so many incarnations that interest has fizzled. However, if anybody out there is planning to be cruising the San Juans during this time frame, Blue and Toki will be buddy boating and we'd love to say Hi to you. I have had to shave a few days off the trip, and I rearranged the itinerary to still do the full loop. Here's where we'll be and when:

I think this is now firm. We've made our marina reservations. Hope to see some of you up there!
