We've chosen the last week of June and first week of July, 6/13 through 7/5.
Can you clarify those dates please? We are planning a trip to Desolation Sound this summer in our R25sc Yukon Ranger. We might be going around the same time frame

Dan,
13 June to 4 July is 3 weeks,
Did you mean 20 June to 4 July?
Bill

YES, Saturday June 20 through Sunday July 5. 2 weeks. Sorry about the typo.

Hi I am a newby to cruising , spent many weeks diving the PNW in my youth and would like to particpate. Just bought a c242 coupe waiting on delivery . We would join in Comox, we live just south of there in Qualicum Beach.

OK folks, spring is in the air! Time to get serious about this little shindig!

First things first though: Coronavirus. While it seems that island hopping on our boats is a good way to keep ourselves isolated from public gatherings, we are planning to go to/from Canada and there is concern with possible border closing. We'll keep a close eye on that situation and adjust as necessary.

Based on this thread, here's a tally of who's interested in joining this trip:

SCREEN NAME definite or interested
BLUESTREAK definite
TOKI definite
FAMILY GUY interested
SPBLAND interested
YUKONRON interested
MATCHAYAN interested
THAICOBB interested
SCROSS interested
JMBERKOWITZ interested
KARLL interested
VERTIGO interested
DCSQATAR interested
TSCHNEID interested
THE DOGHOUSE 2 interested

Bluestreak started a spreadsheet with information on participants, I'd like to fill that spreadsheet out, and we can share it via Email or whatever. Can you all please send me a message, either via this thread, or PM on Tugnuts, or Email at danm5620@aol.com, with the following info:

Screen name
Real name
Still interested? Definite?
Email
Phone
Boat name
Boat type
Boat home port
MMSI# (if you have one)

... and for anyone who's interested in this trip who hasn't responded yet, send me your info!

Like I said before, I'm not planning on making group reservations or organizing this thing beyond a tentative itinerary and communication. The idea is we know who's coming from where and when, we're all in communication, and we can share information, travel together and join up at ports as desired.

Oh, and if you didn't see the message, the Points North seminar put on by the Ranger folks is this Saturday, and it will be on-line! Check it out here: http://www.tugnuts.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14876. Looks like lots of great info will be shared on the entire area we'll be cruising.

More later, stay tuned!

Can you give us the basic intinerary? It might be in one of the posts but I wasn't sure it was set completely.
Thank you.

I mentioned a tentative itinerary earlier in this threads, it goes something like this:

Saturday June 20 through Sunday July 5
Day 1: Anacortes to Reid Harbor on Stuart Island, grab dock space or mooring balls
Day 2: Stop in Bedwell Harbor on South Pender Island to clear customs, then go on to Ganges, guest dock
Day 3: Pirates Cove on De Courcey Island, anchor in cove
Day 4: Guest dock in Comox
Day 5: Stop at Mittlenatch Island on the way to Desolation Sound. Anchor in Prideaux Haven
Day 6: Anchor at Teakerne Arm Provincial Park on West Redonda Island
Day 7: Guest dock in Lund
Day 8: Anchor in cove in Francis Point Provincial Park
Day 9: Guest dock in Snug Cove, Bowen Island
Day 10 & 11: Marina slips in False Creek, Vancouver
Day 12: Clear US Customs at Point Roberts. Marina slips for the night there
Day 13: Shallow Bay on Sucia Island
Day 14: Sucia Island home to Anacortes

I'm wide open on alternate suggestions. I'd also like to keep this itinerary semi-fluid, as in my experience itineraries can change on the fly based on weather and other circumstances.

I think we will be ok by June.
The starting day is 90+ days away.

Although Canada has closed its borders to all non-Canadian citizens, it has not included US citizens. As of 3/17/20 WH press briefing, US citizens still have access into Canada.

Stay safe, stay healthy... looking forward to a virus-free boating season!

So this post has sort of gone dark recently as we try to figure out what this trip will look like in light of the virus and closed borders. Here's what we and Bluestreak have been discussing:

If the border opens before our 6/20 departure date, we continue the trip as planned, with the goal of Desolation Sound.

If it's obvious the border will remain closed well into July, we go 6/20 as planned, but set up an itinerary in the San Juans and maybe dip south of the straight into Puget Sound. We're noodling on such an itinerary now.

We're hearing whispers of a July 1 border opening, but nothing yet official. If this does become official, then we're considering delaying the trip by 1 week. We'd depart June 27 returning July 12. This would give us a few days to see the San Juans, then the rest of the trip to explore the Gulfs. Probably wouldn't consider all the way to Desolation in this scenerio.

So I realize that most of you who were interested in meeting up with us along the way probably don't have the flexibility to make such last minute date changes. However, as the departure date nears I'll keep this post updated with our thoughts and itinerary. It really would be fun to meet up with some of you along the way!

Toki,
Sounds like a reasonable and workable solution to this.
Thanks,
Bill

Toki,

Another aspect of the border opening could be a quarantine period at your first port of call. If this requirement comes to fruition, it will definitely impact my Roaming Rondy in August.

Hoping this can all go away!

Good point Bob. Bedwell Harbor is nice and all, but I certainly don't want to spend 14 days there!

Never thought about being quarantined after opening, sounds like most of my boating will be in Washington this year.

My son who live in OR said they have heard the border won't be opening until after 21 June.
Sounds the San Juan Islands for us this year.

Check the border status before you get too excited. It is currently closed to non essential travel until Jun 20th.
