Is there any alternative to the Diamond Seaglaze windows and doors used on the Ranger tugs? The door on my 2007 R-25 is turning into a pile of corroded pot metal. I swear, I do not believe it is even made out of aluminum. It is corroding like pot metal. The paint is bubbling up and falling off the back door due to the underlying corrosion. I sent an email and some photos to Diamond Seaglaze. Their response was "tough luck buddy." I saw a custom tug at the boat yard the other day. It was a home built one-of-a-kind steel boat. The windows have to be custom made judging by their shape, and the frames were made of anodized aluminum. Can the back door on my R-25 be replaced with a different brand of door with an anodized aluminum frame? The paint is beginning to bubble in spots on some of the windows also. I highly DO NOT recommend Diamond Seaglaze products.

Sorry to read about your problematic door frame. I would say, and this is only based on my experience with two boats we've owned that have had Diamond Seaglaze products and had no such problems, that you got a bad batch. With that said this does not solve your problem but I would not discount Diamond Seaglaze. My suggestion would be to make contact with Ranger Tugs, explain your problem and maybe they can run interference for you, they'll have more leverage. While talking with Ranger Tugs you can ask them about alternative products. Let us know how things work out.

Thanks Jim.
I posted this under "Ask the factory" in hopes that I will hear something from Andrew.

Rather than hope Andrew will see your post (he is awful busy most of the time), why don't you give him a call?

I've seen another boat with what sounds like a similar issue. The rear cabin door (Diamond Sea-glaze) started bubbling from under the paint. The boat was only 3 years old when it came to my attention and progresses slowly from there. I hope this does not happen to me, although it is basically the same construction. I'd be interested in knowing options for the R-27 door since the main issue I am having is a draft past the weather seal on breezy nights.

I am sure the manufacturer would be willing to talk to you about your problem. I have had discussions with them about cleaning products and they are very open to discussion. They are located in Canada and you can find contact information on the web.

Diamond Seaglaze has a reputation of very high quality products throughout the marine industry. Since I have not dealt with this as an ongoing issue, it would be hard for me to assume that Diamond Seaglaze has a faulty finish applied to your door. Since I have not personally seen the photos, I really cant comment on your specific issue. I would be more than happy to view the photos and base an opinion off what I see. I do not know of any other manufacturers of windows and doors in the marine industry to be used as an alternative.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me directly at andrewcustis@rangertugs.com.

Thank you!

I have a very early 2008 R25 (hull #69). My windows and rear door look as good as when I took delivery. Most of my time has been in covered slip in upper Tennessee river (very mild cool fresh water). However boat has spend seveal months in Gulf coast over the last 4 years. I think the earlier boats (2006-????) had a differnt design rear door but I do not know when the design changed. It sounds like your door may have been some sort if factory defect with poor prep prior to finishing of some other defect. I seem to remember someone previously dealing with the vendor and getting good results (post on either Tugnuts or C-Dory website ????).
