Where I normally fill the fuel tank the smallest fill nozzle only allows me to insert the nozzle in a few inches. I would like to build an adapter that would extend, enlarge and change the direction. On my Classic R29 the deck diesel fill fitting is in the well outside the pilot house door and on an angle. What is the size and threads for the diesel deck fuel filler.

Removing the cap chain is only a modest improvement.

VOLKSWAGON makes an adaptor- fits large truck nozzle and reduces to smaller auto size. Was under 10 when I bought. Think Amazon had it. Works great.

Bill,

Thanks, I have one and doesn't work well with our set up. The nozzel (where we get fuel) is the smaller diameter but then has a "ring" around it increasing the size. Also find that having to get down to fill up is a pain. My legs don't work like they used to. I remember a discussion where someone made an adapter that added an extension and changed the angle.

I made a funnel. Works great. Cheap, too. Wish I could include a photo from my album, but that function has been missing from this forum for a VERY LONG TIME. Take a look at the Nellie May album in the "Big Nellie Mods" folder.

The CleanWay filler may help? Besides the no-burp aspect it has selectable gaskets for better fit. TBH we rarely use ours as I don't like having to store a diesel wet filter somewhere, but it does the job it's supposed to, pretty well. https://cleanwayfuelfill.shop/

Wouldn't diesel fuel leak out of the tank vent on the side of the boat before it backs up into the funnel/device?

My dear Watson.... (Sorry. I have always wanted to say that 🙂 )

In theory yes, but diesel fuel foams easily, and the foam will come out the fill before anything showing at the vent - at least in my boat.
I fill very slowly, but on the R29S, the filler is flat, and going slowly works. If I try to speed up, it foams and makes a mess.

I have a Cleanway device but I have never used it. The concept looks great, though.

Thanks,

Rocky

The picture in “Nellie Mae”mods is close what I have in mind. The pipe size and tpi is a big help. Want to change the angle and extend it in height. The cleanway doesn’t seem to work with the slanted surface. I have a Racor filter in the vent line which has prevented fuel burping out of the vent.

That is our experience with it -- the foam and other burps erupt from the fill tube rather than the vent (mostly). So the CleanWay helps. Still, I keep an absorbent pad at the vent, too.

+1 to Rocky, filling slowly seems fine at our usual fuel docks.

I guess each boat is different, I've never had any issues with foam on my R31, the only times I've had any fuel coming out of the vent hole is when I try to add a few extra gallons after the chart plotter reads 100% on the fuel sender.

I've never had any issue with foaming, but my vent does spit a lot on my C30, throughout the filling process. I got a vent-tender to catch it, so I don't have to contort myself to both fill the diesel and hold a diaper over the vent at the same time!
