Debating whether I need to use fuel additive. Have CW30 sedan with Volvo D6, approximately 300 hours. There is all sorts of additives advertised got to be some recommendations from D6/4 folks. First year with diesel.

I use Biobor JF (well, whenever I remember). I think some kind of biocide is a good idea. FPPF Killem is also popular but harder to find at least in the PNW.

Like most additives (and vitamins and other preventatives ...) it's difficult to know how necessary it is, but is not expensive and certainly has not seemed to hurt!

I bought some Biobor based on recommendations I have read here. I’m reading my Yanmar engine manual and it plainly states “Do not use biocide.”

My volvo guy suggested Pri-D. So that is my sole additive.

I think the better tip is to keep the fuel level full when you can to avoid condensation in the tank, use reputable sources, and to use the boat and its fuel tank often!

FPPF: I used it religiously for 10 years and never had an issue with engine performance or crud build up in fuel. However I did use the boat a lot so I also assume the fuel never had time to build up crud.

Ditto with FPPF on every fill-up.
