I'm new to inboard Diesel engines. is there a blower that needs to be turned on before starting my engine. I have a R21 EC
Thanks for any input.

A blower is not needed or required for engine start up. There are no blowers installed in diesel powered Ranger tugs unless a generator is installed. The blower in this case is for reducing compartment temperature around the generator. I have read a few post that increasing ventilation in the R21 EC may be a good idea because of the lack of air movement, the small compartment can get quite warm.

I believe the blowers are also for removing gas fumes from the compartment for the generator prior to starting if so equipped. At least that is what i have been doing.

If you are gas powered you should be. If diesel powered you run it for reducing air temperature. The topic was Diesel fumes not Gas fumes.

Read the topic. Just throwing it out there to be helpful. Hopefully that was clear.

I open the engine compartment for a few seconds every time before starting. It’s just kind of a muscle reflex more than anything, and honestly does feel pointless with this motor. I dunno, I just do it.
