Visited with Andrew (Ranger Tug) and Dave Baker (Karma) at the Seattle Boat Show the other night about having a Yanmar representative at the Rendezvous in September to hold a class on engine maintenance. We all felt this would be a valuable lesson for those of us who are new to marine engines...kind of a "diesel for dummies." We could possibly have an engine(s) to display for ease of instruction and cover the basics from filters and impellers to important maintenance tips. Certainly could have plenty of time for question and answer. Probably plan for about a 2 hour period on Saturday. We think that this may be complimentary, but we also may have to tack on a small fee for expenses. We will get details.

Among those who are registered for Rendezvous, how about a response regarding interest. If you all think this is a good program, I will work with Dave and Andrew to get it organized and provide details.

Lyman,
I think it is a great idea. Count me in.

I think this to be an excellent idea. There's nothing quite like getting the straight talk on engine maintenance from the horses mouth so to speak. You can count me in and if there's a fee/charge that is AOK with me. Thanks for thinking about this idea and I do hope it happens.

Count me in. We can use my engine for the class if that would be helpful.

Count me in; I could use some more knowledge. Good idea! Thanks for thinking of this.

As it appears that the interest in this is going to be high, I will start a new column on the attendees list that will show those wanting to attend the diesel workshop. With forty vessels currently signed up, we may have to limit the number of folks able to attend the diesel workshop due to space alone. If you are interested, sign up early to insure your spot.

Lyman,

As I indicated at the boat show, this is a capital idea. Please count me in as a willing participant.

Lyman,
Do you think that anyone would be willing to video the seminar and post it on you tube? That sure would be a good way for all of us to see it. I sure wish I could be there but that is a really busy time in my business, and it would be very hard to get away. I have a feeling that some other people would have the same problem for whatever reason and would benefit from such a task.
Thanks, Stuart

I have added a note to the side of the folks that have said they are interested in attending the diesel workshop. Currently there are seven people that have said they would like to attend. As far as videoing the seminar, that would be a possibility as long as Yanmar approves. Remember, this is not a set deal as of yet. We are testing the waters to see how much interest there is.

Given this is a Rendezvous and possibly half of the people in attendance would be quite bored with attending a 2 hour seminar on Yanmar diesel engine maintenance specifics (I know Gill would be yawning her head off) has there been any thought of an alternate class or event during the same time. Just a selfish thought on my part, and I'm also quite sure Gill can occupy herself for 2 hours. 😉

Maureen said something about a poker tourament for the ladies while the men were all off leaning over an engine block.... Actually Maureen mentioned doing something with cooking your favorite meal on board.... since I do all the cooking on board, I am not sure what she is going to talk about......

If anything, Gill will find other spouses that she can get to know better.

Please add Bruce Rhodes (Red Current 21) to your list of interested would-be diesel seminar attendees.
Thanks!

What, you mean Yanmars are not perpetual motion machines? I thought clean fuel, clean air and clean oil was all it took. Count me in. It's what you learn after you know it all that counts.
