Can I get the dimensions of the 2015 Ranger 29s Diesel tank? My Volvo fuel sensor has lost calibration and I would like to calibrate it with the multi-point calibration by pulling out the sensor. Since I don't have a way to pump all that fuel...

I would like to have the complete shape and dimensions and preferably, if you know the angle of the tank when boat is in the water that would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Good luck with that adventure. When our volvo guy was out doing other stuff I mentioned the fuel gauge hardly moved. So he did his Volvo magic and it worked better but still only moves in thirds. Meaning not much movement until I used 40 gallons or so. Best measurement is the Garmin and tracking our generator usage. He said that is fairly normal.

I'm going to say your Volvo guy doesn't have Volvo magic. I was shown by a Volvo technician how to properly calibrate the fuel sending unit. They are trained by Volvo at the yearly training sessions of how to do it. I posted the procedure on TuNuts a few years ago. Once properly calibrated it is as accurate as the Garmin if not more accurate. After the first 10 gallons of use or 1/8 of a tank.

After I was shown by the technician the procedure I asked him how many boats he recalibrates. His response was every boat we deliver is calibrated. Our customers will not tolerate inaccurate fuel gages. And Volvo is proud of their system and expects it to be accurate. I guess different dealerships have different idea's as to what is important. I know when I took delivery of my C26 and the gauge was inaccurate the dealer said don't use it it does work!

I emailed Fluid Motion Customer service asking for the dimensions of the tank installed in my boat and they sent me a drawing of the tank. This helped in properly calibrating the tank.

This explains why my Volvo gauge is way off on my new R29CB. I kind of suspected this. My dealer thinks my sender is bad, but I think the proper multi point calibration was not done. The more important question now, is why Fluid Motion doesn’t calibrate the gauges properly. It would seem that once they have a map for each model/fuel tank, they can just program the multi points in using a resistance figures/gallons chart with the sensor out of the tank. There may be slight differences between boats of the same model due to manufacturing variables, but it should be pretty close.

Brian -

I read your procedure and that is why I am asking for dimensions. You post was exactly what I wanted. Now if I can only get the dimensions and do the same on my 2015 29S.

Right now it is stuck at full. I will pull it out inspect it and at least do the 2 point calibration to see if it is functional.

But I really want to do the multipoint and emptying or running down to empty isn't really an option for me.

Thanks for posting that procedure.
