Finally have our 2012 R27 fitted and ready to do some nice cruising this summer! Last item is to get the ordered davits for the dinghy. One question, do any of you cover the dinghy while under way (on davits)? Seems like it would act like a sail and create a lot of drag if not covered. However, chasing down a cover wouldn't be much fun either.

At the max speed of the 2012 R27 the drag from the dinghy is insignificant, especially if you have a cockpit bimini which blocks most all the wind. The max speed and fuel efficiency of our 2014 R27 does not change noticeably with and without the dinghy on the davits.

If you could put a dink on the back of a 2018 R27 that might be a different story! 😀

We keep our dinghy covered in between cruises for UV protection. Covered when the boat is stationary for more than a couple of days on the trailer or in a slip. When we are cruising we take the cover off. Our dinghy is PVC fabric and we have a heavy duty cover that is claimed to block 100% of UV.

PS: Bought our cover here: http://www.vortexdirect.com/vortex-grey ... 81239.html
Very impressed with the product, pricing and customer service. Much better than our thin old cover from West Marine. I am not affiliated with VortexDirect.
