I will also ask the factory, I posted a reply to another thread.

Wanting the return to Anacortes to be quick, I brought our C30 up to a plane. Water from the port side swim step was shooting into the dinghy at an alarming rate. The weaver top strut came off with the vibration. I trimmed her bow down, as well as port up a little to stop or slow the spray. I never got her to full speed, I think this was happening around 17 on the GPS (not accounting for current). I was in too much of a hurry to pay attention to engine RPM. We returned at about 12 knots.

Any suggestions?

In order for it to launch right we mount at that height. I've never had one actually come off so you might want to check air pressure in the tube. What way did you install the yokes when you put the inflatable on? Please use my direct email and we can assist.

Gents, can you keep your notes public on this topic. We are finding the impact of the Dinghy to be a big issue and have been looking for alternatives to even having one on our Cutwater but worry about safety and anchoring convenience. Anything we can learn from you much appreciated.

Terry,

There are more than just water spray to the dinghy situation and two ways to go about it.

1. Leave it the way it is, make sure the inflatable is inflated to normal PSI before operating your boat. With the current mounting position height this keeps it the easiest to launch and retrieve the dinghy when trying to release it from the platform.

2. Raise the davit height. Our dealer (Port Boathouse) takes the 4" raised davits and adds 4" to the height making them 8" davits. The problem is it ends up making it very hard to launch and retrieve the tender but it does get the dinghy higher off of the platform making it for less spray.

To date, we have installed several hundreds of these units and with the securing hardware installed properly, I do not believe I have ever experienced an issue other than complaints of water spray and exhaust soot from the engine which you will not get away from.

On my boat I choose to leave the davit height the way it is because I think the launch and retrieve is more important than the spray.

Thank you,

Andrew Custis

Thanks Curt! Any chance you could post photos for everyone?

I will when I get back to the boat. I intended to take some yesterday when I was on the boat but forgot!

The problem with having the boat on a trailer is that I can't make any modifications until we are on the water (probably on a trip). I have considered raising the davits, recognizing the issue of harder to hook up the RIB. I have also considered just raising the stern, if it could be done without making the boat look too lopsided.

It sounds as if there shouldn't be an issue with damage to the RIB, if it is properly inflated. The top strut coming off of the transom could have been a one time issue. I also don't believe that we got the boat up to full cruising speed, although we were definatley on plane.

It will be a couple of months until we get her to Florida. I will try to wait patiently.
