We like to leave our swim step and stern view clear so I'm looking for options on the dinghy. We have the R29 CB which came with the Zodiac Cadet RIB 290. It's a fine dinghy but is very cumbersome since it weighs 165 lbs. Right now it sits in my backyard. In order to make use of it I'd have to get a trailer, find a place to store it, deal with launching it from a ramp, etc. I've been looking at the Cadet Fastroller 285. Does anyone have experience with this model? I like the idea of stowing it in the garage when not in use but adding the davits to it for mounting on the boat. Thanks for the feedback!

For all the reasons you mentioned, take a look at the Sea Eagle 385ft FastTrack inflatable. For 2+1 people it weighs in at 33 lbs and can EASILY be stowed deflated and out-of-sight either on your swim step or inside the cabin somewhere thus maintaining the pristine stern view for you... plus this Sea Eagle can be handled easily by one person. Inflating the Sea Eagle should be easy and take around 8 mins to fully inflate and assemble its accessories.

Just what are your requirements for a dinghy beside it not blocking your stern view ?

Thanks baz,

Interesting idea about the inflatable kayak! I'll have to give that some thought. Primarily for us it's getting about in a harbor, especially Avalon on Catalina Island. If moored in Avalon Bay itself the kayak would be just fine. However if in Descanso Bay it's a bit more of a hike around a small point with some exposure. We'd probably get a bit rocked after a nice dinner at Blue Water Grill 🙂
