Dinghy recommendations?

I just ordered a 21EC Ranger Tug yesterday. What a cutie! I am wondering what all of you 21 Ranger owners recommend for a dinghy and how you store it.
 
The R-21 is a dinghy :lol:. I'll be using a inflatable kayak and storing it on top of the boom which of course doesn't exist on the EC.
 
Sorry, hadn't noticed it was your first post. Congratulations on your purchase. What an exciting time. How far out is delivery?
 
Wow. Harsh response - but hilarious. We just purchased an R-31 and were thinking of just starting with an inflatable kayak too.
 
SparklePlenty, Congratulations on your new boat. I am sure you will love it as the rest of us do. I have not seen a R21-EC with a dinghy yet. I got a dinghy to tow behind my boat for when I go on a cruise, but I have not towed it yet.

I noticed you used the C___ word to describe your boat. I understand you are new to Ranger Tugs and don't know how irritating the C___ word can be after a while. Everywhere you go people will stop you to tell you how C___ you boat is. Sometimes you will wonder if you will even be able to launch your boat because of all the people lined up to tell you how C___ your boat is. Other boats on the water will stop you to tell you how C___ your boat is. I think you get my drift. It is something you will have to grin and bear it. Anyway, welcome to Tugnuts and the Ranger Tug family. 😛
 
I have had my R21 for a year and haven't decided on a final solution yet.
I purchased an old 7.5 ft. Livingston that I refurbished and tow on occaisions
when I think it will be useful. I consider hanging it on the swim platform however
think it will look goofy being longer than the boat is wide.
Looking forward to other ideas.

I love this forum already, and thank you all for responding. I am new to this so I don't know if this response goes to everyone or just one of you. Delivery is scheduled for April 15th. ARD, I laughed at your response. YOU may laugh when you read that I bought a dinghy for my 16' C-Dory Cruiser- a Coleman inflatable!. To RProffer, my 16' C-Dory was a cutie, too, so I am used to 'cutie' comments and love them! I am in the Pacific Northwest and most cruising will be here in the San Juan Islands, Gulf Islands, and points north. I like to anchor out (what's an anchor for?), and I can't imagine not going ashore when I anchor out. I am not too keen on towing a dinghy across any of the Straits, so I need something light and easy to handle. I am considering a 7'3" Achilles inflatable, or maybe I can put my 10' kayak on fittings on the port railing (has anyone done that?).

We have a 6.5 foot Zodiac dinghy which we have tied onto the stern grid, and more recently haul it sideways into the cockpit by the motor box (leaving one side open). Last summer we had 2 fourteen foot wooden kayaks which Bruce built (!) tied onto the roof which we used to get to shore and day paddling in anchorages. That was a bit of work, hauling them up and down - but lots of fun.

Now, we just bought a 13' Innova "Swing" (double) inflatable kayak which we will again store on the roof - to replace all three previous ideas!

Just purchased a inflatable 2 man kayak for an R25. As I store it above, the deciding factor was the approx. 40lb weight making it a one person job if the wind cooperates. Yes, our boats are cute.
 
I don't know a "Bo". That 6'5" Zodiac sounds like a dinghy I can check out. I still own the inflatable Coleman so I can start with that as long as I am very careful to not scrape it on rocks or shells, which will probably make it go "poof".
 
I have a West Marine (one of the last Zodiacs) 8' "roll up" with ribs. We tow it or pull it into the cockpit if traveling a distance. It's a great little boat...easy to inflate...fun to row...doesn't take up much space when deflated....light enough to move around single handed. Geez...just realized how much I miss summer.

We gave up on the walker bay 9 footer we had and just travel with the 13 whaler now.

If you wonder what we were kidding about just google Sparkle Plenty. If you know about the Plenty family it kind of dates you. 🙂

The comic strip Dick Tracy has introduced numerous characters. ... Sparkle Plenty - Daughter of B.O. Plenty and Gravel Gertie.

I used the Zodiac from West Marine for 3 years, dragging up on the rocks and oysters of the beaches of the PNW, with nary a leak.
